While designing a landscape backyard flower garden, plant your largest trees or shrubs first. Aftter you get in your large trees it is easier to judge how much space you still have in the garden. I like to have layers of three in my garden. For example, I have my Emerald Green Arborvitae’s that will get 13 feet tall, then I have my Little Limelight Hydrangeas that will get 5 feet tall, then I have some ground cover underneath the limelight’s. I like the sedum or petunia, and geraniums. You can use other plants as well depending on your space. I think the buddleia butterfly bushes that only get 2 to 3 feet tall would look lovely next to the limelight’s.
