November Garden Tour // Vegetable Garden // Cottage Garden // Chicken Coop
It’s November and I still have a few summer plants producing and my fall and winter vegetables and flowers are growing. In this video I’ll give you a full tour of the organic vegetable garden, cottage garden and chicken coop.
Looks awesome. Those eggplants are huge. We are in spring here in Australia so have just started our season. We have been building more space for vegetables which I have been posting on our channel so hopefully will have a great year.
Your flowers are called "Impatience" where I come from. I see you grow many night shades. Be careful as they can add to depression and malaise and inflammation.
My garlic has survived just fine, coming up through the snow and ice here in NY, Zone 7a. Your suggestion to put mulch around it is a good one. I do that as soon as I see I sprout.
IV Organics herbal plant/tree paint/spray seems like it would be a great solution to your pest problem. People even use it on bulbs and some paint leaves with it. It started out just being used to paint tree trunks to protect against sun and pest damage but evidently there are many more applications.
Are you in a fire area? I was surprised they would let you do a thatched roof. It will look beautiful when your done. I’m hoping your avocado tree makes it. We use to put quick dry cement in strawberries they put them in the gofer holes. It worked really well to get rid of golfers. Our weather has change so quick in Arkansas. Our lows are on the 20’s and high in the 40’s. I did get my garlic planted. QUESTION: do you think I can still plant the garlic in my raised beds? Thank you!!!!
The garden is really starting to come together! You've worked so hard and it shows! I hope you have better luck with daffodils then I did. I planted about 600 specialty bulbs, like Winston Churchill and Mount Hood, etc. I didn't have a dozen come up and the ones that did, were plain yellow, single flowers. Some were in areas that didn't have regulat watering, but some were in areas that are sprinkled with the house area. I'm at the cusp between 8B and 9A. I don't know what went wrong, but I'm hoping that I will see something come up next spring. Now, I will say that Amyrillis are fantastic! I have the most beautiful flowers and they come up all over, in areas that I keep moving them out of, but babies must remain among the tree roots. (the previous owner planted) Good luck with the daffys! Can't wait to see the coop finished, it's charming!
Will you ever (or do you) have an aerial/drone tour of your property? It seems like the overall shape is interesting and with all the fencing it's hard to imagine. Just wondering! I can understand if you don't want to for privacy, of course. 🙂
The avocado will survive. Mine have gone through a couple winters with freezing temps. Froze almost everything. They kept going and are now about 6 feet tall with thick trunks. they still get froze a little, but just keep truckin'
Those eggplants! Yummy. I’m surprised your allowed to have thatched roofing living in a fire zone. We live on the central coast and are not allowed to. It’s going to be beautiful. Great job ❤
Everything looks great! Have you tried to use SuperThrive for the avocado? I use it and especially on stressed plants and it really helps, that and a lot of love. I just bought your Companion Planting book, even though I have been gardening for about 55 years, there is always something new to learn. Plus, judging by the preview, the design of the book is really lovely, as a fellow graphic/web designer I really love when a layout is inspiring.
I've just put my gardens to bed for the winter with a white dusting happening as we speak. Eventually there will be anywhere from two to four feet covering the veg garden, depending on the winter. The front beds get snow banks that can reach eight feet so it's fun seeing your gardens still growing. Thanks as always for sharing, take care to all.
It must be nice to have fresh eggs all the time. I got some local organic once and they had the biggest orangest yokes I've ever seen! lol And fried chicken is perfect too.
26 degrees last night. I put my pepper plants in the greenhouse after pruning them. Havent dug all the potatoes yet. Planted garlic with mulch; I hope they live. Tomato plants are in the compost. Some of the lettuce is still alive.
Hooray for saving the avocado tree! Stuff is looking good – you got off to a rough start but apparently are recovering well. Man! I thought Josh Alexander in Alberta, Canada has the coolest chicken coop but you have firmly taken the lead by a mile! The process of this massive garden reno is fascinating.
I see you are a California Master Gardener, but no location. Do't worry, I won't come steal your peanuts. What County and Sunset zone are you in please? I'm in Alameda County, Sunset 16
You're right! Sun Impatiens were originally call New Guinea Impatiens. It's a marketing change. Impatiens don't always do well in gardens due to people planting them in the sun. Sun Impatiens take more sun but still r need e shade. Also Sun Impatiens come onto the market just a little bit later than Impatiens thereby stretching the winter color a bit longer. I know that in California, especially southern) color is the thing in gardens. That is what consumers are looking for. Avocado tree doesn't look so bad. I've seen worse pull through. The Haas variety are tough hardy trees!
i don't remember you showing your parking lot/ patio? I see you have shrubs and I know you said you wanted to divide it in half. Did you jack hammer out a section of concrete also along the enge?

This year you put in drip tape. Do you like it better than previous drip irrigation system?

My nasturtiams froze to death a few days ago.

The rooster knows I’m watching. Bless his heart.
You can plant ANY narcissus, and not worry about gophers. I think they are actually poisonous.
The avocado looks like something from Dr. Seuss.
