  1. Googled dahlia formby perfection and it's still available. When I used to garden, I ordered from Swan Island dahlias. they have the best catalog. Awesome photographs on heavy stock paper. They have all the categories broken down with each plant's specifics. Quality tubers.

  2. Wow! The garden behind you looks so beautiful! I'm a little jealous of your mild winters as we are preparing for our first snow tonight.

  3. Wow! You did a fantastic job of fielding questions and showing composure as though in a small group of close friends over a glass of sweet tea! Really surprised how much I enjoyed this session. Thank you for sharing your trials with us, we sometimes forget we aren’t the only ones going through tough times.

Your channel is one of the regulars I’ve watched over the last couple of years even before it occurred to me to subscribe, while I was almost bedfast for most of that time. On the mend now and hope to do some small amount of winter bed prep as I’m able. I have a rolling cart with a little tractor seat, and two narrow folding bench/kneeling pad stools for front and back yard, and I can do a little seated each day. My small postage stamp property became a wilderness while I was unable to keep it and no longer had the neighbor’s horses to mow it for me. However, the organic material has accumulated and built topsoil on top of our clay, while my neighbors who scalp their yards every other day have barren dirt and fast runoff with no remaining soil or fertility! I have spongy soil and earthworms!

Will be shooting for some small Back To Eden spaces as I can increase them gradually. I have been encouraged by each little vignette and topic, and have lived vicariously through yours and a few other channels while recuperating. Thank you for doing this. You never know how important is the difference you make to someone who is scrabbling to survive! Yahweh Almighty bless, protect and prosper you and yours!

  4. Thanks for answering my question. I appreciate your videos so much. I am in north Idaho and yes the snow gets DEEP.

  5. it was great to learn more about you, your family and your future plans. I so enjoy your videos and have learned so much. I am looking forward to you building your Homestead channel as well. Thanks for all you do! You bring a bright spot in our lives.

  6. You are awesome Brian. I find you an extremely likable character. Thanks for all you do.

  7. I live on the Big Island now but the best time of my life was in Idaho. I lived in the Boise suburb of Nampa. The seasons in that area were awesome. Yes we had snow for a short time in the winter which gave a garden break and no weeds! The summer days were long and it was by far the best garden I ever had. BTW I am from So Cal

  8. Appreciated this session and we appreciate your channel a lot! We also watch the Homesteading one too when videos are on that one.

  9. OMG! You started your love story with garden with “Secret Garden”? By Agnieszka Holland??? I knew there was something Polish in you 😂
I just loved today’s video!!! More of it please!!! 😄😍

  10. Wonderful q an a Brian . I appreciate the fact you showed a side of you that we all experience but don’t discuss and that’s depression and anxiety. I have struggled with it my whole life and found gardening and crafts help me find my happy place. It’s nice to know that I am not alone in this. Thank you so very much for starting your channel it is a wonderful help to so many. God Bless you and your family always.

  11. Nice chat Brian!! Re the difference between a purely gardening channel, and one that embraces other aspects of your life – what works for me is when the subject line clearly states what the video is about. And, as you say, if it isn't of interest to me, then I'll skip that one but no way would I unsubscribe. I'm not keen on vids re animals, particularly when its about eating them as I eat plant based – so i'll give those a miss. But when, on another channel i am subscribed to, everything became mixed in together – with lots of animal pieces, then some gardening, then something else, I did find that I started not watching the videos as I had to go through quite a bit I wasn't interested in, to get to the pieces that were of interest. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth, and of course there will be other viewpoints I"m sure.

  12. Glad to hear The Homesteading channel will continue. Thought there would have been some updates on the Chicken Cottage. But I do get glimpses of it as you wonder around the property. I know things take time, hope you are filming it all so we can see the progression. I was one of the GOGI berry warnings, I think they would be great in big pots. They do taste wonderful though, I have since pulled them out and continue to fight the volunteers in my beds and grass area. Glad you decided to wait on those.

  13. I've been away from you tube for awhile, and tonight found your channel as I was tired and just scrolling. Very peaceful and relaxing and homey. Lovely. Thanks so much!

  14. I find that the gardening community in comments are some of the most amazing and knowledgeable people! I love it so much😍

  15. just heard you sayyour favorite avo is Hass On the Big Island we have over 200 varieties of avocado. I dont think I even bothered to eat a Hass after moving here 5 years ago

  16. Aloha Brian, Thank you for sharing and answer everyone's questions.I feel for you with the traffic noise. I live on a main drive…always cars, sirens and planes noise. Really difficult for me to record outside like you're doing. Saying a prayer for you that you have super checkup. My husband and I continue to work in our garden. We completed phase one, two and working on three. We still learning to grow in our garden and do lots of experimenting. Take care Have a restful weekend.

  17. Brian thick trees will act as a sound barrier. I back to a set of railroad tracks at the very end and far bottom of my property. In the summer you barely hear and see them. In the winter the sound is much louder. I planning on adding several evergreens to help deaden the sound in the winter. It's not terribly loud but noticeable. But my point is the full summer trees make a huge difference.

  18. Frustration, disappointment, even anger; joy, happiness, peace, meditation and communing with nature are the flip sides of one thing…gardening. With the latter part happening the most I believe. I have been gardening for many years in varying degrees from a few flowers to large flower beds and vegetable gardens and everything in between. I have always wanted to plant something even when there have been disappointments. Gardening is my 'happy place'. I agree that taking time to figure things out and researching information from trusted sources, such as your channel, is the best way.
This year was a difficult one for me due to the unusual weather and my Mom (99 years old!) not being well. I was visiting my Mom a lot and neglected my gardens, but even after a long day with Mom, when I came home my gardens helped calm me.
I hope you'll understand when I say that I think your videos, though always very good and very helpful, have gotten even better since you've moved to your new property. You are experiencing some of the problems that many of us (especially new gardeners), experience and to see that, and your solutions, is super helpful and enlightening. Please correct me if I've got this wrong, but I believe you said that the property you left was once your grandparents' property and they were gardeners? Now you're on a property that had no gardens and not great soil. Your journey with this new property is very encouraging and helpful.
I have enjoyed every one of your videos on both channels, even when they don't pertain to me, and that is due to your knowledge, your smile, and the fact that you are real! Thank you for the great job you do! And sorry for this long post 🙄.

  19. I Love ❤️ Your Homestead Channel….. especially about the Chickens/Chicken Coop, I which you would post more videos about the chicken coop progress 🐥🐣🐤🐓🐔🌸🌺🌷🌹

  20. Great video! I learn so much from you and others here. Great network for learning. Love your channel

  21. Thanks for sharing. This video along with your gopher video made a connection. Especially that gopher video. I must of watched it seven times and laughed every time. I laughed even when I wasn't watching it; for I also have a gopher problem. Your moment, your emotion, your expression, everything in that video brought back my experiences with gophers. I grew up in Vista, San Diego county, now I'm up here in Temecula. Welcome to the area.
Ps, now I use 3 inch or bigger rock

  22. Thank you Brian, really enjoyed getting to know you better. I too am a native Californian and love our weather. I am 82 so have seen many changes but I probably will stay here. I am in zone 9b in the Sacramento valley. Too cold for avocado in my area but wish I could grow them. Take care, catch you on the next video.

  23. Have you considered water catchment on every structure? We do and we also capture the condensate from our small ac unit in the laundry room. We have considered next capturing the same from the house unit. In South Texas on the coast, we capture 5 gallons a day from one room.

  24. LOL! I love the rooster crowing in the background. Seriously. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I love your channel and appreciate knowing more about you. Keep doing you!
