In this vlog, the final vlog in my 9 Vlogs of Halloween 2022 event, I read books that inspired movies that scarred me as a child, including Jaws, Flowers in the Attic and Ring. I also go on a cottage getaway with some of my booktube besties for Halloween frolic! πŸŽƒ

  1. BOOK SPOILER AHEAD: Loved the movie Jaws but hated the book because of Mrs. Brody's affair with the oceanographer. So mad I chucked it in the bin.

  2. I read Jaws this year because I’m terrified of sharks and the ocean but I’m morbidly curious about it and I love the movie. The parts about the shark good. All of the stuff about the wife literally made me furious. It just gave me the major ick.

  3. I enjoyed Flowers in the Attic for pretty much the reasons you said you didn't. Not sure what that says about me, as I enjoy books that create negative feelings in me but hey ho. Earlier this year I read the prequel which is about the grandmother. It was an interesting read as it showed she was never really a good person, but how her experiences shaped her into someone worse. I would say that yes, there is some sort of resolution with the mum in a later book, but the books tend to follow the same theme of being heart breaking.

  4. Flowers In the Attic sounds so heartbreaking πŸ’” Ahhh so amazing seeing you all together 😁 looks like such a great time

  5. I think I will skip the book for Jaws and stick with the movie πŸ˜‰ I agree that Flowers in the Attic is very sad and depressing, but also very good, as in very well written. I do wish that the brother raping the sister wasn't in there though because like you said, it's hard to have sympathy for him after that. I literally just bought all three ring books yesterday and now I am afraid to read them! I am not sure I will like it. I love the American film. It came out when I was sixteen and it was the scariest movie I had ever seen! I can't imagine watching it at ten years old! 😱 I loved seeing your trip with your friends, especially the ghost part πŸ˜ƒ

  6. You can’t stop with Petals on the Wind because it doesn’t wrap anything up, just gets deeper and more disturbing with each book.

  7. Loved this!! But I almost missed it as I didn’t realise it was you from the thumbnail. I’ve never read Jaws, but I have read The Deep and the racism and fixation of black people and rape is in The Deep as well.

  8. Agreed with you, Gavin, Jaws movie is way much better…I thought you were spending time with your friends that was adorable. πŸ˜†

  9. It is soooo beautiful in that area!!! Incredible. Great photo shoots. Loved this vlog!!

  10. This past summer I introduced my 16 year old to the movie Jaws. At the beginning she kept saying, "I don't understand how this made people afraid to swim." By the end she was saying, "I'm never going into a lake, ocean, or pool again!" LOL

  11. I really liked Ring! Concidering it became the most terrifying book I've ever read 🀣 but it's because of the movies… I fear them for life, and the book just reminded me from those scenes and I relived them πŸ™ˆ
I think if you are not familiar with the ending, it's a great twist to experience, made me want to continue with the series and torture myself a bit more πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ

  12. In the south black men were lynched because of false accusations of raping white women. Sad but true. Watch Rosewood. A boyfriend made me watch it. So horrible but is a true story.

  13. The first Flowers in the Attic isn't the worst book in the series. Each book gets progressively worst. Each generation gets worst.
