“Paul McCartney said to me, when we sat down to do Revolver, he goes, ‘this is our most individual record, and this is where we discovered pot.’”
Son of Beatles’ producer George Martin, Giles Martin reflects the mammoth task of remastering ‘Revolver’ with Hugo Rifkind.

Surely we've suffered enough?
Since the Beatles’ music has never died, there is no need to bring it “back to life.”
fuzzy beards the albums were ruined by fiddling about give it a rest
I'm put in mind re: not repeating themselves of Miles Davis's credo: "I love playing ballads, that's why I don't play ballads."
Remixing…not remastering.
Its remixed rather than remastered. Also, its needless and it actually doesn't sound all that good imo.
I still have the original album on vinyl. It sounds great, the way I first heard it all those years ago. I guess for those who don't either have a copy or aren't familiar with it, they won't know the difference.
Originals Are The Best In All Music We’ve Lived In That Era & Still Listen To The Originals On Cd. Keep The Beatles In The 60s Era Which They Dominated ?
It sounds processed and sterile if Gilles can’t hear it he’s in the wrong business
great interview!
Thank you Giles and Peter Jackson's team, we are eternally grateful 💖🎶💖
When will people know the difference between remix and remaster.
Giles remixes the Beatles albums.
The 2009 releases were remasters.
Giles needs to get some more training in sound recording. Cranking up the bass and pushing back the percussion instruments ( cymbals, tambourines etc) kind of smothers the detail. The original still sounds superior to me.
It's actually not a remaster, it is a remix. Two very different things.
Giles is a super cool guy, we're lucky he's in charge of all these reissues, remix etc…
I think it’s worth while to remix the previous albums. I enjoyed the new Revolver remix. Although, some of the vocals did sound a bit weird on a few tracks. Other than that, I enjoyed it! If they can get the vocals sounding natural on “Rubber Soul” It would be a real treat!
I will listen to this under caution as Revolver has been remixed not remastered, there's an important difference.
The title of this post is highly insulting
Who hired this guy?
Listening in Australia..what a wonderful interview. Am so glad that Giles has followed in the footsteps of his father. What a gift we have being able to hear The Beatles Revolver (Abbey Road, Let It Be, SGT Pepper and the White Album) reimagined audio wise for our times. A splendid time guaranteed for all 👍
