The Conservatory & Botanical Gardens combines horticultural prowess with spectacular design. The Japanese inspired walkway design is center stage in this garden. The uniquely designed pattern is in harmony with our traditional Japanese Garden theme.
There are 65,000 flowers in the Japanese Spring arrangement. Flowers include Foxglove, Easter Lilies, Cineraria, Snapdragon, Cyclamen and Calla Lily. There are 630 shrubs ranging from Hybrid Yellow, Nandina Domestica Gulf Stream, Mugo Pine and Selaginella. The Kabuki Characters stands 28’ height and 35’ in length. His outer dressing is made up of textiles and preserved flowers. The preserved roses are 900 deep purple, 90 deep red, 1100 dark red, 1100 red, 500 red/cream bi-color, 252 dark pink, 225 fresh green, 225 dk green, and 2000 white hydrangea. We wanted to harness every detail of this fabulous display.
Across the lobby from the front desk is an opening through which a glass ceiling rises up 50 feet. This is the beautiful Conservatory. The ceiling framework and beams are the sculpted green metal of oxidized copper, called verdigris, set in floral patterns.
The Conservatory & Botanical Gardens’ pathways lead to Café Bellagio; MICHAEL MINA Bellagio, a wonderful gourmet seafood restaurant; the Chihuly Gallery, the first shop featuring the work of Seattle artist Dale Chihuly; Giardini Garden Store, a shop displaying garden-oriented gifts, fountains and decorative items for the home; Spa & Salon Bellagio; Jean Philippe Patisserie, the first truly European-style pastry shop in Las Vegas; and Via Fiore (“flower way”), the promenade which leads to the Spa Tower.
A horticulture staff of 120 maintains the Botanical Gardens and the entire grounds of Bellagio. The staff has the ability to achieve seasonal designs by selecting flowers that complement the trees, gazebos, bridges and ponds,and can add or remove water features to enhance the seasonal effect.
The Conservatory season starts with Chinese New Year and features traditional designs of the celebration. Spring brings cherry blossoms, while the summer offers flora equally as fragrant. Orange and yellow, brown and gold are used to match the fall foliage. Following Thanksgiving weekend, the gardens are transformed for the Christmas season. Bellagio’s holiday display is one of extraordinary beauty. The wonderful fragrances and magnificent colors of the seasons take over the entire arrival experience. This ever-changing natural display is the single most significant component of Bellagio’s design, fulfilling the promise of creating the most extraordinary hotel in the world.
