How did you cover so many plants in your garden with drip irrigation? Or do you have to hand water some of them.
Jim,
I don't see anything below the video about becoming a member–only the "Subscribed" link. Perhaps you could post it here?
Thank you. 😊
My 5 y/o green thula giant arborvities are 9 feet high (center leaders are 3 feet higher) than overall tree. When and how much can I trim the leaders?
Do you ever travel further west like Texas to visit gardens? I am in zone 8a.
That Ginkgo Saratoga is spectacular. You picked the perfect spot to make this video. I'm really looking forward to seeing this tour.
Jim,
Thanks for answering my winter sowing for spring blooms question. One more question–if I'm surface sowing seeds like poppies in an area w/ mulch, do I move the mulch away or just sow the seeds on top of it?
Thank you. 😊
Love your question answer videos! Learn so much! Would you suggest I try spraying Wilt Stop on my (planted a year ago) boxwoods? A few had winter burn on them last winter. They were planted in a gallon pots and I have 35 . 7b MS Thanks.
Question: sometimes my flower beds smell like something died in them. It seems to happen mostly in beds with hostas. What is causing this and what, if anything, should I do about it? Thanks!
So happy to see you are filming at the Cox Arboretum. As you said, it's an amazing place. What might be even more amazing is that Mr. Cox doesn't seem to need any labels to identify those thousands of plants.
What about adding blood meal to the wood chips to compensate for the nitrogen? I saw that trick somewhere. What do you think, is it viable advice?
I look forward to this Channel every Sunday! I had a tree removed and now there’s a big hole in the ground . What kind of soil should I place in it for planting ? I know you should mix some native soil but with a hole this big , I can’t get native soil to mix with . What do you suggest ?
Love Q&A. I have a Touch of Gold Holly and Fire Chef Arborvitae. both are planted on puts. Can I leave those out side over the winter? put size medium and large. I live in zone 6 Cleveland Ohio. Thank you.
Is it okay to place fertilizer on top of mulch, or should I move it away to place on the soil around base of bush ?
I have lots of maple leaves with powdery mildew. Are these still ok to use?
Thank you for your videos! Always helpful! 🐝🌹🐝
How close do you plant perennials in cottage style garden? How do you know if you’ve planted too close?
Cool that you were in Canton! I’ve made the drive a few times to buy from the North Georgia Native Plant Nursery.
Thank you very much Jim and Stephanie for another beautiful episode colorful leaves for Fall love them all. 👍❤️🙏
Hope you are checking out Gibbs Garden in Ballground GA if you are still in the area
I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the arboretum (years ago now) & meeting with both
Tom and his wife, both so gracious with their time. I wasn’t sure what to expect on that
visit, but from the moment I arrived, I felt as if on hallowed ground. As you noted, hard
to describe. Spent an hour or so on a personal tour with Tom & his depth of knowledge
is just what you would hope for, awe inspiring. I too left with a signed copy of his book
and it’s been such a useful resource. I left there knowing I’d witnessed something rare,
a visit I’d never forget. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the additional content.
I lived in a town in Northwest Georgia for years not too far from where you are (Rome) They have Ginko trees lining areas of main street downtown that are so beautiful this time of year.
I live in Florida zone 9a. My local lowes sell tons of plants in the perennial section labeled zone 10. Should I worry about these plants over winter? Btw coleus is perennial here.
Any advice on cultural / biological controls for slugs on my cool season vegetables / annuals? My plants in full sun spots seem to be less severely affected. Could it be it something to do with the soil moisture?
Great video! I look forward to the conifer video. Question for next week: I have a Slender Hinoki Cypress that I planted 2-3 months ago. I have noticed some yellowing toward the center of the tree. When I went to inspect it, it has a fire ant nest at the base. Would they damage the plant or do you think I’m just over or under watering it? Is it normal this time of year? I do have clay based soil & did mound it up when I planted it. Zone 8a, Johnston County NC. Thank you!
have a couple hydrangeas in pots. (Nikko blue and summer crush) I live in Oklahoma zone 7b. Do I need to pull them inside on super cold nights or can they handle the cold in pots?
I guess what im asking is Do hydrangeas NEED chill hours or cold to bloom again or will they be fine just being brought inside and still bloom normally?
Hey Jim, at 27:43, in the background behind your left shoulder, our right side, there appears to be a yellow bird that is fluttering back and forth to the tree and the color of the bird is the same as the leaves. Is it a bird and, if so, what kind? Thanks! P.S. the ginko on the other side is spectacular! What a beauty! How long does it take to get one that size? Would I live to see it? 😀
Hey Jim! I have a rhododendron thats been in its current location for 18 months that did not bloom this spring, and did not set visible buds for blooming next spring. It gets partial afternoon sun. We did have a dry summer, but I did my best to provide supplemental water. Zone 6A. Could it be getting too much sun? Should I give it more time in its spot before moving it?
Thank You Jim 🥰
A tour of Garvan Woodland Gardens in Arkansas would be wonderful🤩
Do hyacinths naturalize in zone 8A?
I'm in Maryland, zone 7a, and I just bought a gorgeous camellia sasanqua on clearance. Because it's only hardy to my zone, I'm going to follow your advice and keep it in my cellar over winter rather than plant it now. My question is how long can I keep it outside before bringing it in for the season? And during the season should I bring it outdoors on warm days (bringing it in at night when the temperature drops) so that it gets at least some sun? Thanks!
I'm in Zone 8A Little Rock – I'm increasing my composting capacity this fall and adding lead mold bins to produce it for use as a potting medium and soil amendment. I would like to limit or eliminate the use of peat. Will leaf mold help me to eliminate my use of peat?
How to overwinter wax begonias in zone 8? Thanks!
I definitely want to add some more confiders to my garden but also have a small urban lot so they need to be small. I also have a large male dog. What conifers are at the top of your list for salt/urine tolerance?
What’s the best way to stake a leaning rose standard? I’ve cut it back several times but it gets huge and ends up leaning over.
