In the last video I left the shed with a less-than-stellar temporary roofing job hoping that it would protect the shed during the upcoming rain. Spoiler alert: I failed – mostly.

In this video I fix my mistakes and finish off the waterproofing steps including applying the house-wrap and properly securing the roof underlayment. I then move onto installing the roof itself. For this project I am using Premium Pro-Rib roofing that I purchased from Menards. I got all of my roofing components in charcoal black.

I have never done any kind of roofing work in my life, let alone installing a metal roof. To add to the complexity I had to order all of the roofing materials 3+ weeks before I even built the shed! What could go wrong??

  1. Nice you keep it 💯….
Can you please give me the Architecture form that did you blueprints for your shed. I would like to build that design next spring.

  2. Jobs always take so much more energy then we think it should. If you know the spots where the screws are you can drill all the holes at the same time by laying them on top of each other. That's we did on my shop. And I'm always chasing Shop Greatness.

  3. Why did you predrill I've did tons of this metal roofing and the screws pop right through the metal ……I marked the location to keep a straight line on the screws .

  4. Just out of curiosity, did you price out how much this would have cost if you either a) bought a kit, or b) had someone else install it?

  5. "I've watched so many videos that I'm full of false confidence". This is going to be on my gravestone.

  6. I’m loving this series! Im hoping you don’t rush the finish work and decorating/installing the tv like most channels do

  7. Honestly for the pain that is tyvek… I just wrapped my barn in ZIPs system. Overkill…. maybe. But worth it. Yes 110%

  8. Love the video series so far! Sorry bout the closures strips and screws. You got an ABC Supply near you? They usually keeps closure strips on hand.

  9. Yo on the porch front by the door. You can set up one of the screen projects that rolls down and you can set up a projector and with a bluetooth speakers you can make an outdoor mini movie theater. I set up something like that on my garage and love it

  10. When standing on a roof, even a metal roof, a simple piece of yellow foam makes standing up there easier. Think a couch cushion without the fabric. My brother in law used it finishing up a metal roof in the rain. Just stand on the foam and no sliding around.

  11. There are special Staples for tyvec that have a small plastic backer around the staple that hold the tyvec in place better. My town actually told me we had to use them as they were code

  12. Tyvec is the worst building wrap. I agree it is cheap, but also crap! I know, it's just a shed! But if you really wanted to seal it properly, you would chose something else.
But I congratulate you for the job done! Keep up the good work!

  13. Your fasteners should never be in the valleys on metal roofs. They should have been installed on the peaks to prevent leaks.

  14. Looks good! I'm only 1/3 of the way through so sorry if you address this later on. I'd suggest taking your drip edge and bending it out so there's a half inch or so gap between it and your facia. Helps to make sure the water doesn't get stacked back up and get on hour facia, same concept as when you pour water out a glass slowly and leaks down onto your sleeve. Check out This Old Houses video on louvered gutters they put on a shed for a better explanation from Tom Silva. The video is called "How to install an
    alternative to gutters"

  15. In Thailand we had to replace a roof. The cost of replacing the entire roof with a metal frame and sheetmetal roofing was 2000 dollars including installation. Things are so expensive in the states.

  16. Big "T" keep up the good work. You will set back in a chair by the campfire with your family and say. I am glad it is done, what a learning experience it was. Your kids will love it. Also camp out in it they will love you and the wife for it!!!!

  17. Been watching this series for past few weeks. Nice design. Btw I swear I saw you in BridgePark over the weekend.

  18. Enjoying the series! Shingles would have just faded into the background while this roof will be a defining feature. As always your candor is refreshing.

  19. I did a standing seam roof on my back porch with 3 skylights and one connecting upper wall. It was literally the most technical thing I've ever done but the most rewarding. It still looks beautiful and is virtually maintenance free. Always love a metal roof. Yours is turning out great! Keep it up and all your tips were perfect. Especially those gloves!

  20. D (do) I (injure) Y (yourself). Just saying. Every DIY project complexity is underestimated and WE always overestimate our ability.

  21. Love your work. I noticed you put your screws into the valley of the roofing sheet and not the ridge. Best practice here in Australia is to drive your screws through the ridge so you don’t get water running down the screws into your ceiling. Is it different in the US or did you screw up? (Pardon the pun).

  22. I was trying to figure out why you’re using house wrap on a shed. Then it hit me, this is where you’ll be staying when you’re in the dog house with the wife and thus it needs to be a conditioned space!

  23. I love this series. You keep it real and admit when things go wrong which is the reality for 90% of everyone. Can't wait to see how the finished shed is going to look.

  24. Nice job on roof, now I looked at the Boom Plus and if I saw correctly ouch not cheap $$$$. But probably worth the bucks.

  25. I love that you are so meta about your mistakes, you embrace the issue and try to turn the frustration into a learning opportunity.

  26. Your video would be so much better if you curbed your profanity

  27. Loving this new series!! It’s giving me some new ideas for a build in the corner of my back yard, possibly for a new shop.

  28. You should look into "cougar paws". It's a shoe we use when hanging Christmas lights. Gives great traction on the roofs. Thanks for showing us the tips and tricks.

  29. Tin roof screws should be on the ridge part, not the valley. As water runs down the valley and can get under the screw

  30. errr.. 9:30+- did you screw at the low spot of the metal roof? i did that a couple of months back by mistake and its haunting me now🥴

  31. I can smell the burgers now! And the smoke from the fire pit. Kyle does a superb job. I was hoping maybe he might’ve come over and given you a hand with the roof.

  32. Just use the dam cap nails from the beginning that was funny and i appreciate your honesty.
If i got the length measurements wrong I played it back in slow motion and in Black & White hahahahaha.
Amazing Project and you're an awesome editor. I know now why i subscribed long before your move. Great Content.. One of my fav channels.

  33. Been watching the series, you shouldn’t have done asphalt shingles; nonetheless, it’s producing good content. Looking forward for the next video.
