We were tasked with developing the garden of a contemporary timber property to better exploit the riverside views and harmonise house, garden and landscape. The key design challenge was to understand the extent, frequency and impact of any flooding on the garden and agree with the client the level of risk they were prepared to take.

The main challenge was physical/ logistical due to a narrow, weight limited bridge which restricted the size and weight of all deliveries to the property, and there were many.

The following elements were built in to the design, which spanned both the front and back gardens:

New driveway and approach
Greenhouse and vegetable garden
Outdoor kitchen
New paved dining terrace
Riverside decking
Lawns and planting
Water feature
Irrigation
Lighting

The result is an elegant, flowing and practical garden which closely fits the client brief and reinforces the strong sense of place.
