I have been gardening most of my life. I started helping my mother and father in their garden as a child and I just love working outside and planting flowers, small shrubs and other plants. With that being said, I've used many hand pruners and big lopping shears through the years. After watching Garden Answer for awhile I finally decided to purchase the Felco #2. Best money I've EVER spent. Truly! No hand fatigue. No blisters. The Felco 2 cuts through just about anything that needs cutting. I have 24 shrub roses so I use them A LOT! A great product and I'm so happy Laura kept mentioning them in her videos. Great product and Garden Answer brings me joy every morning. Happy Gardening!
If it’s quality work you want – even if there were other contractors – the busy good ones are worth the wait!!! 🥰 You’ll forget about it as soon as it’s done – kinda like pregnancy labor & delivery😂 💚
Question for Aaron: how does the camera "know" to switch to you when you talk? Surely there aren't two cameras and you're both being filmed all the time, then edited and spliced together?
"I like to make big change?" said Laura? Apparently, she means when it's at the store. Maybe she should pretend she's at the store next time Aaron wants to tear out a section at home. LOL! Context is everything!
About planting bulbs: If you're planting a large area, would it make sense to remove X inches of dirt from the entire area, then set down the bulbs (instead of in individual holes, just placed upright on the now-lower dirt level), and lastly shovel the dirt back over the entire area? Seems to me that would be efficient and remove the need to use an auger to make a bazillion individual holes that then need to have a bulb individually placed inside, then individually covered.
Gotta love Aaron! "Our labor is the fruit." And so pleasantly disagreeing that birds would eat plastic. My lesson in diplomacy! Loved this video. Will shop for my new Felcos immediately, ha.
I agree with you about the four seasons statues near the Hartley. Not the place for them. They are beautiful, but I think they are nicer if they are spread out through the gardens….especially on your property with so many gardens. Spring could be placed in a spot that really shines with spring blooms, summer in a place where summer blooming bushes and flowers are abundant, fall where the fall colors and blooms are magnificent and winter in an area where the winter interest is a lovely show. It’s nice to come upon them one at a time when strolling through a garden. 😊💖🦋🕊
Squirrels get into EVERYTHING! We have huge trees that drop acorns EVERYWHERE and they still dig in ALL my flower beds and pots. My neighbor had a squirrel build a nest in her car engine when her car sat unused for 5 days! They can damage wiring if they get into your home-ugh! I’m no longer so fond of them as I was years ago they are so destructive….
When we were first married, my husband bought me a pair of Felcos for Christmas. I was thrilled. Sadly, after 46 years, I no longer have the original pair. I do have new ones, which I love. Wonderful videos all week. Love the Q and A. Such a great start for my morning and my week!
How about big rectangles of Bluestone? They come in different shades so you could find one you love. I have seen them at a stone yard here in SLC so maybe you could source.
The stone by the back door looks great with the brick! I am a trained designer, You don’t want too much of one surface, at least Too differentiate between zones.
Congrats on Felco sponsoring. I love mine. Have #2 and #6, #2 for years. Hey, question? The last several recap videos I've noticed the volume seems to be so low that I have to turn up my computer speakers to 100% and the YouTube volume all the way up to just hear you. Is that because of the mics? I'm really having trouble hearing you now. Thanks for all the videos. They are the first things I watch in the morning with my coffee. Have a good one!
I need me some Felcos. The one's I have are to big for my small hands. I went to the dr the other day and when I shook the Dr's hand he said, wow you have small hands. Then he looked at my feet and said, you have tiny feet also. He had his assistant to look at my hands and feet to show him how small they are. I thought I'm here to see if I have strep or the flu, so let's forget about my hands and feet. I think you need a field of wildflowers. Maybe on the new land you bought. I think it would be pretty just to see just a space of wildflowers growing in the field. Cause dang it I can't get my husband to make me a place for a field of wildflowers, so I can at least see your alls. You can't leave me hanging by saying, " We might put a pond in the corner." Are you talking about a pond where geese can land on it or one of those beauties that you had before, just on a bigger scale? Why? Why do you do this to me? LOL. I'm sure whatever you and Aaron decide it will be beautiful.
The quadrant outside the Hartley is shaped like a Celtic Cross. Perhaps this could be used for naming the area. Looking forward to seeing it in spring when all the bulbs come up. Fantastic.
Squirrels (in my area at least) avoid alliums and daffodils so the beds with alliums will be protected. Hardware cloth might be good idea for the parterre!
Just bought tons of daffodils, including doubles, which I plan to plant using the trench method, as far easier than planting individually. Are you planting any new daffodils this year? I am also a Muscari fan, and have planted loads loads of varieties, as they are so hardy, and I specially love the blue in Spring, as so few flowers are blue in colour. Do you ever use them, as I cannot recall seeing you plant any?
Maybe you could call the four square area by the Hartley "The Courtyard". Thanks again for another wonderful week of videos and a great recap. They are truly the highlight of my morning. 😊

Laura….. you are a natural VISUAL MERCHANDISER (often confused with interior designer).
You could call that space "Four Corners" kinda boring but it would be simple and easy to remember.
WELCOME, Felco. Love your products!
I would call the box gardens around the greenhouse, the parterre. Because that is what they are. 🥰

You’re so right Aaron, the journey is the fun part and accomplishing goals feels so good. Thanks for sharing it with us.

" the labor , is the fruit " thank you sweet Aron for giving me language to my feelings on my garden projects !

Bout time Felco! 😉

Thank you for providing a link to this on FB. Every week it teels like it takes me forever to find the right tape on YouTube.
Felco, a winner in my book!

This was a super informative recap!

I am a Felco user!! My favorite because of Laura!
I would call the squares near the Hartley "the formation"
Every gardener whether they want to or not learns patience.
Welcome Felco!

I love Felcos! I have the Felco 2’s, the ergonomic Felcos and a pair of the snips. Such great quality I highly recommend!!
Thank you for answering my question! ❤

I bought a pair of Felco’s purely from watching Laura using hers.

I hope all your neighbors offer their property to GA first. More videos & more beautiful projects! ❤ more inspiration & motivation for viewers 😊
Wow!
TWO new projects next year!
Exciting!
Wondering…
Maybe you could call the four square area by the Hartley "The Courtyard". Thanks again for another wonderful week of videos and a great recap. They are truly the highlight of my morning. 😊

“The 4 corners”
I am just so happy that your father is slowly being shown more in your videos.😊
It's a little pompous but the word for the design in front of the Hartley is "parterre". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parterre
Just asked my husband for left handed felco pruners for my birthday 🥳
Do you ever travel out further west like Texas to visit gardens?
