The twelfth episode in my ongoing series of reviews, with analysis, of the BBC science-fiction show, Doctor Who.
In this part, we examine how the baton of showrunner was handed over to Steven Moffat and how he immediately set out his stall with a more fairytale, yet convoluted, iteration of Doctor Who, casting the youngest actor to yet play the lead role, and overseeing the monumental milestone that was the 50th anniversary of the programme!

Thanks for this.
Moffat would have been better as the writer of 1 or 2 stories per year than as a show runner.
Well, there goes my afternoon
What will come first? The 60th anniversary or the Capaldi episode?
Holy F, I completely randomly got back into your vids/documentaries 3days ago, and heaven only knows how amazing that timing was!!!
BTW fantastic episode as always, Clever Dick!
I didn't appreciate 9 until I was a bit older, 10 I absolutely loved and made sure the show survived, and 11 brought it to new heights with the American audience. Can't wait to see Part 13 with Capaldi. I know a lot of people were turned off by them casting an older grumpier doctor, but I loved him too. I look forward to seeing that part in about a year lol
FINALLY
Fantastic work as always
I'm curious in regards to when you will eventually do the 14th Doctor, if you make that a seperate video or include it with the 15th Doctor, considering Tennant 2.0 will have three episodes and that's about it. Well, and one scene at the end of Power of the Doctor, but that's technically still part of Jodie's run.
Such great timing. I just started going through Matt Smith again. Looking back, I really think the Smith Era was great
god damn
One of my favourite video retrospectives ever, the love, passion and care that has clearly gone into this cannot be understated.
Waited so long for this but it’s absolutely everything I thought it would be.
11 was when I really got into Doctor Who and will always have a special place in my heart.
Wow! That was incredible!! Such a nostalgic look back at the era that introduced me to this outstanding show. Smith was my first and will always be my Doctor! The question is, when you get there, will Tennant get a second video?
HECK YEAH! LOVE THIS SERIES
I remember when the first episode of Dr Who came out and I thought, 'So much for that corn'. Later Jon Pertwee picked up my interest a little and thenTom Baker brought me to the series with interest. Of that first period of Dr Who, though, I liked Peter Davidson the best. A Doctor who has never been given sufficient credit. The serial 'Enlightenment' was the best written (by Barbara Clegg) and produced serial of the whole first Dr Who series. As for the reincarnation of the series in the early 21st century, David Tennant is outstanding but Matt Smith comes close behind, possibly mainly because of the CGI exemplified so well in 'The Pandorica Opens' and 'The Big Bang'. What fantastic writing, production and CGI!
I was just ready to go to bed when I'd seen this was uploaded 10 hours ago.. I'd waited so long for this, and I couldn't even wait. And despite how late it is now, I couldn't have found a single better video to have kept my attention and been so enjoyable the whole way through for "My" Doctor's review.
I've already watched it, so I can't say it now… But why not? Geronimo!
Thank you, i love all the detail, thought and care you put into all these episodes and it was well worth the wait. Matt smith and Peter Capaldi are my favorite doctors and you take all the time you need to make the next episode. We well all be here when it comes out!
He was good at individual episodes but horrible at writing long storylines they were so over complicated
Well worth the wait everytime.
YES! IT'S FINALLY HERE! THANK YOU!
You're the best!
Once again you've knocked it out of the ballpark sir! Very, very well done. I can't wait for the next installment.
I’ve missed your dulcet tones thank you for all the hard work yet again nobody puts in the work you do only you take the time and have the passion. I learn so much from these and I obsessively research the show but you are on another level. I have to say tongue in cheek though if you carry on at this speed you’ll never catch up or maybe that’s the point it won’t end too soon that way. This is the perfect series to watch if you can’t sleep you even make me enjoy the Doctors I don’t necessarily like because you make them come to life.😊😊😊
Another amazing video, thank you for your hard work in this series its been fantastic
God I love Matt Smith. As an American, this is the doctor that got me into this crazy world. Now I don't miss an episode. That season 5 premiere, watching this mysterious man in a tattered suit plummeting to the earth below, is a core memory now.
On a different note. Thank you so much for this series of videos. I work nights and these long formatted videos make the 8, 10, sometimes 12 hours fly by. I've researched these videos like 3 times😅
He alive!?
Yes yes can’t wait for this been waiting for a while for this one yessssss my weekend plans sorted now 🎉🎉🎉
He's back…and it's about time! Amazing work as always man, it's worth the wait! Also, seeing the 50th anniversary special at the cinema is a memory I will cherish forever. It was just so special
Always hyped for these
Still fantastic as always
I love how these play out, it's amazing the amount of work you put in these videos
I’ve been waiting for this for ageeees!
Brilliant 👍
I feel the Smith era is so often overlooked in fan discussions, I really appreciate this tribute to the era
yes lad more vids
If you ask me, with regard to the new Paradigm Daleks, I think they’re fine; if only they’ve been given a good story to accompany it
I've been looking forward to this
Well done sir! Wonderful retrospective on the Smith era!
