October 1 Secret Cottage Garden Tour – What has Changed?

So many changes have occurred since we last visited the Secret Garden and many more are to come.

Once the weather clears (it is raining and will be snowing later today) I will be moving a raised bed with a wire mesh under it into the area that used to have my White Swan and Powwow White Echinacea.

The gophers are too much of a problem and have eaten way too many things I cherished this summer. I have resigned myself to this way of dealing with them back here in the Secret Garden as much as I can.

Now that the main growing season is mostly over for me I am contemplating implementing growing more veggies in this space alongside my flowers. (have you priced lettuce lately?)

*I garden in zone 8 but I face the challenge of being surrounded by evergreens (I live in the mountains) that cast a lot of shade. Plus we get very cool nights even in summer. Many lower zones will actually get blooms long before I do.
