It’s that exciting time of year when we are planting up our large pot for near the front door. In this container we plant a number of plants and bulbs which will provide interest from now until well into May next year.

Traditionally tulips are planted between November and December. The theory behind leaving them until November is that if planted sooner, they may begin to grow in the warmer early/mid autumn weather and then the new growth can get damaged by frost later in the year. Leaving them until the weather is colder also helps to prevent disease as the cold weather wipes out viral and fungal diseases present in the soil that may infect the bulbs.

The plants in that we are using in our display are;
Erica arborea
Acorus ‘Ogon’
Pansies (lemon coloured)
Giant Crocus ‘Vernus Mixed’
Tulip ‘Black Parrot’

  1. I'm gonna have a look at the 2 first plants you mentioned, I don't know them, thanks for the inspiration ! I still have to do my fall/winter pots, but almost everything is still flowering, I can't get myself to take them off :/
