  1. I was shocked and amazed that I had a canna that came back after spending a winter outside in a 6a garden. I don’t plan on leaving it in the ground this year though, I think it was just a fluke that it survived.🍁🍂🍁🦃💚🙃

  2. Yes leave the leaves in the beds to a point. My oaks cause too much and can cause issues too. So yes leave but not too thickly.

  3. I too had a reblooming Iris bloom this week. Mine is purple also and it looks like there's going to be a yellow one that will bloom in the next week if the weather stays nice. I didn't get many blooms this season so I was surprised when they rebloomed. Zone 7 Maryland.

  4. HI Matt. If you're looking for something with amazing fall interest, I picked up two really gorgeous clearance plants this past week. The first is something called a Tuxedo hydrangea. The fall colors on that are unbelievably gorgeous, and it's just full of buds everywhere, way more than I have ever seen on a hydrangea. They also say the foliage is supposed to be almost black during the growing season. The second thing I picked up was a Sarah's Favorite crape myrtle. The colors on that are super bright and multi colored, without any diseased looking foliage. It reminds me of a sugar maple. It has white flowers during the growing season. I just thought I would share because I've never seen these two plants before and I don't understand why not, they drew me in from across the garden center.

  5. Matthew, I live in SC zone 8a. My dinner plate dahlias stay in the ground, but they’ve never ever achieved the sizes they were their first year. I may be doing something wrong, but I do fertilize and everything.🤷🏾‍♀ So there’s that. I’m always happiest when I go outside without a “chore” mentality. Unfortunately, I then flit around doing all the easiest things and the bigger more important tasks are left undone. Oh, well, still trying to strike a balance! Thank you for your down to earth garden talks! 💖
