We’ve discovered an easy way to get our garden tilled for free using our chicken tractor and six hens! This does take quite a bit more time than a traditional tiller, but it is very effective and you get also lots of eggs along the way!
Join us as we tell you how our plans have recently changed for our upcoming onion plot. We’ll also provide an update on the “Overwintering Mix” cover crop that we planted a few weeks ago and show you all the individual components of that mix.
Lastly, we’ll be planting another cool-season cover crop mix in our largest plot. This plot will provide forage for our chickens in the beginning of next year. This “Cool Season Soil Builder” mix includes lots of different cover crops including flax, barley, rye, phacelia, clover, vetch, peas, and more!

Its hard to believe its the end of planting season for us. Except I did get some Garlic in. I'm excited to see how that will end up
Thank you for showing this. I have a chicken tractor similar to yours and I thought it might work but you confirmed it.
What about the peas
Always enjoy a new video. This was great. Also love the music. I find myself singing the exit song all day.
What exactly is the difference between tilling and wheel hoeing?
Your chickens still need a satellite connection and a TV so they can watch Green Acres reruns.
Ha ha ha ha ha. My husband thought you were raising baby alligators! I'm dying! I had to explain that the Florida Georgia game is what you were referring to. Imma have to pull his Florida card
Your stands would be a lot less patchy if you use a broadcaster for your seed
Awesome! I have chickens in my garden, working on Bermuda grass.
Travis, I have a question. I planted some fall crops this year. Other years, when the summer crops were finished I planted a cover crop.
I'm in the north, 6a. It's a strange autumn, still have greens going and blooms on the fall english peas. But don't let that sway you. And try to avoid the It Depends, if possible. Thanks!
I planted some off that over winter soil conditioner cover crop tonight
Chickens did a good job of clearing that plot.
That free tiller will work a lot better if you paint a big orange and blue G on it😎😎😎😆
too much organic matter is not all roses. an old study, which all of the organics extrapolation came from, was actually faulty research. my experience (in wet winter and dry summer climate) is that an over-abundance of dead organic matter added to soil can be counter-productive. this is consistent with the properties of dead cellulose materials in soils. in more stable climates, it's not as bad.
You don’t have any hawk problems?
Heck yea! throw some sand on it.
It would behoove you… I know man right. We are from the same proper and right school of doing things right.
The roots will find a way. That is their job. I'm bad about the roundup but I get quickly overwhelmed. I'm always searching for something gooder.
I'm always paying attention. I am second to the Nematoads and pealite but will settle for sand on top of the onions. I'm fixing to trim mine. Thanks.
