My Japanese Hori Hori Knife. Best tool ever for dividing perennials.
Got this Hori Hori knife for Christmas. I really like it so far, and it is absolutely great for dividing perennials. I’m starting to reach for it more than my old garden trowel. It’s solid, and should outlast me.
Our theory when shopping: Buy the best you can afford. A low quality purchase typically fails resulting in a second purchase thereby both equaling (possibly even exceeding) the cost of the best, first. ~ We love Japanese knives and shears!
I think it's a better switch, I got to get me one of these, stainless steel too,,,20 to $30 is okay for a quality product. Happy Gardening Marty Ware (Australian Micro Farmer)
Good tool and a good demonstration, they also make a Carbon steel version. Lee Valley Tools sells them as well. In Canada the stainless one is $ 44 and the Carbon one is $ 27. The Carbon one would take a lot more maintenance.
I got a hori hori for my birthday this year, and it has been a fantastic tool. I got mine from Amazon (Truly Garden, I think), and it's excellent. It came with a nice leather case, too. I agree with you – not something I would have sought before learning about it, but I don't know how I got on without one before! I use it a lot when transplanting seedlings into the ground.

Nice looking blade. It's probably way too sharp for me… I'm a bit clumsy and would probably end up cutting a finger off lol
