What grows in the heat of Houston, TX summers? Kale does. This is a short share about growing Kale in the summer heat with Mo, your Houston urban amateur gardener.
@chrisfettig It kept growing all summer, but it likes cool weather best. I water and use compost or/and organic fertilizer. I use kale in soups and stir fry. Just this week we started using it raw in smoothies (My husband found a recipe online.) Kale is very nutritious. Now, that it's cool, it is growing much more lush. -Mo
I've been juicing kale along with carrots and celery and decided to grow my own. This was extremely helpful because I live in south Texas and wasnt sure if it would grow, but Houston's summer is just like ours 🙂
@coreistic I love growing greens. I've recently started to add parsely and beet greens to those green smoothies along with the kale. All the best to you. -Mo
Hello Mo, thanks for this video. I am moving to the desert soon to be with my family …. Desert Hot Springs, CA and have been looking for gardeners who deal with heat and rain issues. If you have any suggestions for me; It would be appreciated. Subscribed 🙂 ….. Thanks again ….
Hi C: When you get to your new location, try to find some local gardening groups. They can be very helpful with specifics about your area. General gardening practices can be applied just about any where. Be observant. "Listen" to the plants. Pick and throw away all diseased leaves as soon as you notice them. If you notice a bug problem, deal with them sooner than later, so they don't set up permanent living quarters. …and experiment… try a new plant every growing season. -Peace, Mo
You are welcome. I love kale. It's easy to grow & it's a plant that keeps on giving. Check out my gardedening tips making Green Smoothies video. It's a great way to use Kale. Who needs 5 hour energy drink. -Peace, Mo
I'm glad the vid was helpful. If you haven't tried Kale in a smoothie, check out Gardening Tips Green Smoothies. It's a great way to drink your greens. And yes…born and raised in a suburb of Boston. Thanks for your kind comments. -Peace, Mo
Thanks for sharing Mo – handy clip. My first time growing kale. Love the taste. I shared some plants with my neighbour. He tested a few different parts of his garden and found the ones grown around pine needles grew like crazy. Happy gardening.
Featuring Kale Plant sounds very challenging. I don't have this kind of plant in my garden but I am very much interested to start growing it after I watched and learned some important tips coming from this video. You did a good job!
I don't know who could have thumbs down this video. I looovvvveeeeeee my elders I can listen to them allllllll day, my goodness. This lady could be talking about anything and I would listen.
