Don’t do a Deck
How’s that for a landscape video title? What exterior design/build company CEO tells people why you should not do a deck? That would be me, the Outdoor Living Guy. Paradise Restored is a family. Our entire team promotes the satisfaction of our homeowners and that is why I would not recommend getting a deck; when you become a part of our family, we are going to be up front you. I think you‘ll be blown away by what we did in this job and why you should do a patio instead of a deck. We’ll show you the transformation of a tired backyard deck, where we didn’t recommend building a new deck. I encouraged them to, “change your deck to patio pavers.”
You’ll be shocked at the finish line and how beautiful it turned out. Enjoy the transformation.
The question, “Should we keep the deck comes up all the time.” The answer, “Emphatically, no!” I want to show you why in this video. Rule #1, when a deck is close to the house, let’s say a single level house and it steps four steps down to a hard surface, don’t put a deck in that situation. There are other solutions like pavers vs deck – we’ll discuss in this video. And stay tuned to the very end ’cause I’m going to give you some bonus material. Other jobs of why you should not get a deck patio design. I hope you enjoy these decks to paver patio ideas and hope it will save you some money.
So, a quick little reminder on these outdoor living spaces . . . don’t jump ahead and do it because you think you know . . . talk to experts in outdoor design. Decks are outdated and a no-deck outdoor living design is a better look while allowing better flow to your property. Especially, don’t do a deck on a single level home.
I want to promote a design first to help you get it all figured out in a 3D World so you can realize the finish line before your start. We would love to help you see your whole space – the house, door, windows, and your completed outdoor living space in a design plan. There are plenty of no-deck backyard ideas in our portfolio

Looks amazing, great job. How much did it cost total.
Love it got me thinking about something like that now.
I couldn't even watch the video because the thought of not doing a deck is silly to me on my single level house that has a dirt yard. I'm not gonna throw my lawn chair in the backyard and the dirt and mud it is mud to watch the sunset And enjoy evening air. This idea that you are selling is for those who fill the need to keep up with the Joneses
I agree. No deck
Very nice area
I’d recommend putting that wood in a metal container off the ground/shelf at the very least to deter mice and bugs
Its permeable?
We had a deck, well it’s coming down! It’s on the south side so too hot ! And we have a wall of windows as well. (Great in the winter sucks in the summer) so it is over 30 years old and it’s coming down hopefully this summer. A covered patio will take its place. We have grand kids that we would like to keep in the back yard. And a big field over the back fence. We will definitely use that more.
Currently about to build a deck, and would love a cheaper alternative like this. BUT I live on a hill, backyard is sloped, house is trilevel, so a deck was always the best idea to deal with the landscape. Nice idea for some tho!
Nicely done.. bet that was about 90plus grand
I like a deck.
Don't build a deck! … Build another house out back instead 😛
I like that you post this. I think most houses don't want a deck. The reasons for decks is when the grades mean the floor level is too high above the ground for a patio to be workable, and a deck with piers might be a better choice when you have weak or expansive soils. Decks on a typical raised floor house in the suburbs also put your outdoor space up in the air– so that you could be looking into your neighbor's yard (and feel on display yourself). Decks and railings, stairs and all that exposed wood construction is more than people expect. After being in building and design for most of my life, I don't do deck jobs except as part of a house project. People think decks should be easy and should be cheap to design and build. They're not. A proper landing at the door like you show is important. Good job!
When your main level is street level but on the side of a hill, decks are the only practical solution. I have a double decker back yard deck and still have 6-7 feet below the lower level. This solution was great for this site but I would be concerned that the 3 stairs have no railing. As people develop balance or strength issues as well as decreased vision, a handrail is helpful but is also helpful for young children.
I found your video JUST IN TIME! I’m so happy for you guys. I agree 100% with all of the benefits that you’ve pointed out. Congrats-ENJOY! I’d love to know how much the project was and, what State/ general area that you’re in. Thanks for the inspiration! Beautiful
didnt realize at first– this is a commercial
Beautiful design!
Yay something else to mow around lol I love it😍
but how much does it cost….I did get a backyard deck installed and I love it! Its all wood and I can sit there and enjoy the breeze with my pup! Plus my parents made a good point on how all that cement can't be good for their joints when they visit and so more reason for me to go with lumber : )
Thank YOU so much! I just moved into a new house last year. It has a hot tub on a deck. But the layout of the rest of the deck is really awkward, because only a portion of the deck is covered. And they had a "portable" gazebo thing covering the other part of the deck. Blustery weather blew that over. THANK YOU. Love-love the advise, the designs and the good will.
Homeowner comes home: “I thought you were just replacing the patch of grass with pavers…”
Contractor: “I hope you like it, invoice is on the Kitchen counter, talk to you soon!”
How much was that project?
I’m so glad I watched this!
Gorgeous. Price tag? Completely beyond my tax bracket beyond a doubt. I do however encourage anyone to hire a designer before a DIY endeavor. Your results will be much improved. Benefit from good advice and spare yourself the costly blunders.
Now that there is zero place for water to go…. How does hardscaping 90% of their back yard work when it rains?!
Need to replace a deck on the front of my house and these steps and tile are just the ticket. No more wooden decks for me!!😊
Do you need a permit and is the total cost? Thanks
I’m honestly not a fan of decks but I do love patios
….?
What is the dimensions(LXW) of the patio? Thanks
Help please! Just had a contractor come out yesterday to rebuild my deck but would love to transform my yard altogether.
