Karen’s garden trial comparing conventional and jute weed matting continues in country Victoria. Karen prepares a long garden bed, planting a selection of popular winter Brassicas [Red Cabbages, Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts and mini Broccoli] in two rows. One side is planted with straw mulch and the other side with jute weed matting. The next vegetable garden bed is planted with Chinese Broccoli and Bok Choy.
– Preparing the soil and then covering with straw mulch.
– Cabbage moth exclusion netting serves double duty, excluding sparrows as well as moths.
– DIY cabbage moth exclusion netting with homemade wire hoops, frost protection netting and repurposed net curtains.
