Earlier this year we planted an entire 30′ row of Valencia Red Peanuts so that we could have our own boiled peanuts fresh from the backyard garden. We checked those peanuts a couple weeks ago and they’re finally ready to harvest.

Join us as we harvest the entire 30′ row of Valencia peanuts, pick the peanuts off the plants, and boil a huge pot of them. We’ll show you the easy way we like to make boiled peanuts and also discuss other ways to cook boiled peanuts if you don’t have a big pot or a propane burner.

  1. A few months ago this Idahoan was near Athens at Jaemor Farms getting boiled peanuts. Can’t wait to get back there! Actually I need a good price on raw peanuts here. 👍

  2. Your killing me, I had to go get my store bought peanuts out the fridge to munch on. The Hardy Farms peanuts in the cold produce section are pretty good. They are Georgia grown but nothing like the old man’s who use to cook them in old beer kegs.

  3. I’m not sure about boiled peanuts, I guess I’m going to need to try some!! There’s plenty of people around here ain’t got a tooth in their head but they ain’t got no peanuts either!😂😂😂

  4. My top shelf of my freezer is full of boiled peanuts and I’ve got a few quarts of them canned for later. First time growing them! They are delicious!

  5. I have never had boiled peanuts only fresh roasted from the bait shop. Where you shop, eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Let me tell you..don't try throwing the shells on the floor at home..momma wasn't going for it 🤪. Daddy got us kids in trouble haha.

  6. The roadside salesman with no teeth that talks like Karl from movie Slingblade, is best. He took a beer keg and cut top off it. Karl needs a bath, he’s got tobacco juice on his face, he likely uses same water over and over to cook the peanuts. You can smell him over the peanuts so hold your breath. Must have cash, his flip phone won’t take cards

  7. Here in north Georgia we’re pretty picky about our boiled peanuts , they need to be just right

  8. Travis, you are so funny. A side of the road seller, with few teeth, and the fewer the teeth, the better those boiled peanuts are likely to taste good. That analogy is a hoot!

  9. From my many years of boiling Valencia peanuts, I learned as the water cools in the pot, the more the peanuts absorb the salt.

  10. Assuming there would be any left (which I think is a bad assumption), how would you store them?

  11. Travis, Never have tried boiled peanuts ! With a couple of beers, I'll help you eat some. (lol) All the best from S. N.H.

  12. Im not sure I have ever had boiled peanuts. I just roast them in like 30 minutes. Is the boiling doing something that makes a great flavor change?

  13. I've always been known for thinking out of the box so yep, jumped the gun on my well hardened off zone 7 Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, shoot ~ even Brussel Spouts. 🤣Hitting a hundred degrees the last few days and got a few days left to go. I've been keeping the soils cooled off by watering in the blasting full sun heat. I'm surprised they are still standing. Checked soil temp regularly and they're staying cool, hopefully cool enough. Hehe! Bolt on ol' son! PS: Send me some of those finished boiled peanuts. They'd be a good snack while I till in these bolted transplants for cover crop rye, turnips, and peas. 🤣🤣

  14. I'm right there with you, Trav! That's living! I agree on the NuNu's or Slap Ya Mama! Wake those goobers up!! Never have understood those folks that think boiled peanuts are gross!!

  15. I do mine in a pressure cooker. It doesn’t take near as long. I like the jumbo white peanuts way better than Valencia’s. But any boiled peanuts are better than no boiled peanuts. 🥜🥜🥜

  16. LOL. Find someone with few teeth on the side of the road selling boiled peanuts. 🤣 I certainly would be open to trying some of those peanuts since I have never had boiled peanuts before. Only thing is….you still have all of your teeth from what I can tell 😲 So I will just have to take your word that they are good. 😀

  17. I absolutely love boiled peanuts. Mmm I grew some year before last but didn’t get a whole lot. I plan to plant a bunch of em when I get my larger garden set up. Thanks for the tips on cooking em up.

  18. We love boiled peanuts! Never grown any though. It's been a while since I made them, but we found a recipe for making them in an instapot (or similar) and they turned out great. I think they got done in a couple hours.

  19. You can have my bowl of 🥜 . 😅 loved seeing how they grow though. Got some okra growing. Took a bite off one directly from the stalk like you did. There is a slimy film that stays in your mouth yuk! Will be frying up these bad boys instead. 😂

  20. I use 1/3 container of salt for 4 lbs of peanuts. Boil for roughly 2 hours, shut the fire off and leave covered but checking occasionally to see if all peanuts have sunk to the bottom of the pot. Drain ‘em and eat em.

  21. I don’t know… You ave too many teeth…should we trust your Boiled Peanuts 😂? I don’t know if I have ever ate True Southern Boiled Peanuts…but I did enjoy salty peanuts. 💕👍🏼🥜💕👏🏼

  22. Enjoyed the video Travis. You didn’t try mention when to dig up my peanuts? Mine are green and lush. Yours seemed to have turned yellow a bit. Is that what I am looking for. Thanks for your help. I love all your videos and advice. I love how you ask for feed back and ask questions to the group. I watch you mainly because I am just north of Savanna, and we have similar conditions. But I have raised beds, so glad you are incorporating them into your farm.
    Thanks , karen

  23. You say Hoss came over ? Collaboration time lol. I still love watchin the younger fatter you doing the row by row garden show. Always lots of good info and vibes from your vids.

  24. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and have never had an opportunity to try boiled peanuts. I like peanuts, so I’d like to try them someday.

  25. Before I started growing my own, I used to buy my boiled peanuts from this little place in Old Town, Florida, called Maria's Dixie Nut House and Bait. Yum! Now I'm looking at pulling up 130 row feet of peanuts over the next month. I will save some for seed and boil most of the rest. I will, however, set some aside to make peanut butter and roast some for my Yankee wife who had a deprived childhood with respect to the proper way to cook peanuts.

  26. Water 1 quart, salt 1/4 cup, liquid crab boil 2 tbsp per pound. That's how we roll in south Mississippi.

  27. I love boiled peanuts! When I cook them, I leave them in the pot full of salty water until they cool. They seem to absorb the salty water and are delicious.
