  1. Haven't worn shorts since I moved to North Alabama two years ago. Bees, red wasps, hornets, and things I've never seen in my life. I chucked the sandals because of dew and fire ants, wear jeans and tennis shoes, and live outside until the winter sets in.

  2. Note to self. I had a wasp sting me about a month ago and I was wearing my work pants. And yes it hurts alot. LOL

  3. Yup! Yellow jacket! They are mean as ….. well you know……..! They're not happy with stinging once – nope – they have to make sure you know you messed with them!! Your gardens are wonderful, Ray! Thank you so much for the video! Rascal looks like he's lost weight! Way to go, Rascal!

  4. Again – thank you -you know so much and are happy to share, lucky us. Hope you are better in your leg, nasty wasp!

  5. Ray you gotta weed those beds, lol. I wanted to ask about the Anahem (sp?) peppers , are they spicy? Beautiful Bean flowers did you find the name? I see your arm is ok?

  6. Have you ever grown tomatillos? I understand you have to have more than one plant for pollination. I have a few plants I just bought and will probably need to hand pollinate them because I don't have many bees around here. Do they have male and female flowers like a squash, or do I need not worry about the sex of the flowers and just dust the pollen on all of them?

  7. Hello Ray,
I am the woman who's tomato plant you named Black Betty. This year I am trying my luck with a yellow pear by the window again. I stepped out of the youtube scene for a much needed brake…a long brake, but did not stop watching your videos. My husband & I love your videos. We particularly love it when you say "there is no rhyme or reason…". You are soooo funny Ray. Your garden looks amazing as always. Much love for you, Mike & Rascal & all other creatures.

  8. Ray like always very good video and i Lerner a lot today, thank you ones again..have a nice day…!!

  9. Ray just you say the million dollars question ..i have two..how you grow eggplant and carrots i have it a lot problems more with the carrots ..but i will like to see a video about it together ,thank you for you time..!!

  10. There are few creatures on this planet I would rejoice in having disappear.
    Wasps. Mosquitos. Biting flies.

  11. just found your videos. I planted my first raised garden in April and it's doing pretty well. I did a lot of research about soil. rascal is so cute. my video is only about 5 minutes long. I enjoy viewing other people's gardens. I enjoyed your video

  13. Hey Ray, I think it would be really cool if you did a myth-busting episode. After watching other youtube gardeners, I'm wondering if their advice was actually sound advice. You've already covered many of these topics like Baking soda, pyrethrin, and neem oil, and it was very helpful, but have you covered things like Epsom Salts (for magnesium), Lime (for blossom-end rot), Vinegar (as a fertilizer), and Ammonium Chloride (Nitrogen fertilizer). I think it would be a fun and helpful video!

  14. If I let my moose of a dog in my garden I end up with snapped plants.  She weighs 80 pounds as she is half German Sheppard/Lab.  Yes, she is a little overweight.  I only had luck with about half of my garden as a freak cold snap stunted the growth and the ants ate all of my okra and snap peas.  I do have a lot of long-legged daddy spiders which freaks me out a little when I go get my green beans and I got to beat like 10 spiders off of each plant, makes my skin crawl but I gotta get my beans.  Everybody things it is funny because I will take another weed I pulled and start hitting the beans before I stick my hands in it as I do not need anything crawling up my arms.

  15. you mentioned ants don't harm your plants but that's not entirely true. Ants will farm and protect Aphids so they can eat the sugary nectar the Aphids produce while the Aphids eat your plants.

  16. Love your videos. I lost all my romaine lettuce was just too hot and they all bolted. How do you keep your lettuce from bolting in 100 degree summer temperatures? Thank you

  17. Where can you get a boxcar willie tomato plant? You mention plants I've never heard of. I grew up on a farm and do some farming myself. I love growing and working in my garden.

  18. 95 degrees? We call that a cool front down here in Texas. 😉

A comical bee story for you – I got attacked by some bees last year on our 2 acres and I took off running. I kept running because I could still here the buzzing and reached the back porch where I thought it was far enough away.
I still heard the buzzing and took off around the house to inside the garage and still heard the buzz. Man they just were not giving up I thought until I looked down and saw 1 stupid bee clinging onto my shirt. I thought I was going to have a stroke due to that one bee.

  19. Ray,
I like the shots of Boxcar Willie. It is really looking nice in that bed. Will you use that bed again for tomatoes next year? Or do you rotate your crops? I'd love to hear your thoughts on crop rotation.

    Mike

  20. Do you have an email I can contact you at? I would like to send you a picture of my tomatoes they are growing really weird and was wondering if you had an idea why.

  21. I'm in SoCal. We have Argentinean ants. they turn my soil into saw dust. It's really bad when they nest in my beds.

  22. Hi Ray! Speaking of peppers, my plants are putting out plenty of peppers, but they are thin-walled. Not thick and beautiful like you see at the store. Do you know what causes that?

  23. Ray I tried to join your Praxxus55712 facebook  but I do not see a join or add friend button. Could you send by youetube message the proper link please

  24. I'm going to give this tomato method of training a go this year in my greenhouse. Thanks for the tip Ray! Happy Growing Jennifer : D

  25. ray could u please put some of the pepper seeds off that pepper plant in the next seed give away i would love to have some thanks

  26. Good Morning Ray and Family ! My brothers always say that i take my ruler out each morning to measure my plants !! LOL ! Have a blessed day !!

  27. Adding the leaf, stems, and plant waste back to the immediate area is called 'regenerative farming'. Good to see this technique has filtered down to the hobby garden. Good job… thanks for the post.
