Does grass that has been treated with broadleaf herbicide cause problems? Landscape companies often have clippings and other organic matter they have to get rid of — but again, you don't know what those grass/plants/branches/leaves were treated with when it comes to toxic chemicals.
I am definitely a leaf snitcher 😂 . In addition to snagged leaves, I bag my neighbor's leaves. Saves him mowing and gives me leaves. Win Win.
I would add if you have your lawn treated with chemicals you probably don't want to use it as mulch.
Aw!! That's good info..thanks..I didn't think I could use pine .needles..😊
Hello milliner gardner I have a question does adding tree branches bring grubs? Because everywhere I add tree branches I see grubs and they are my worst nightmare they killed one of my fig tree
There are places in the world with free wood chips? We get PAID €25 per compacted cube meter for piles of branches so a truck can come, chip them, and take off somewhere that makes heating pellets.

I have a tree service drop 3 loads of chips at my property every year for free. I have a large property, plenty of room for storage. I would never by mulch at big box stores it would cost a small fortune lol.
How about using the leftovers from juicing?
Thank you for info. We have such a horrible time with fire ants we have to be careful with woid chips. And centipedes love pine needles. But we are learning how to work around.
Wonderfully instructive video! I have an abundance of Sycamore leaves. Would those be okay to use as mulch? I know some people have an allergic reaction to Sycamore dust (skin and eye irritation). Any thoughts on Sycamore leaves? Thanks
Glad you made a video about it!
Think I saw you mention these as a good source of mulch in a previous video.
So this past yr, I used pine needles and leaves from trees in my own front/back yards and it was sufficient mulch for my few fruit trees. I was throwing away this “gold”
I’ve seen piles & piles of pine needles and bags of leaves around my neighborhood, if I needed more!
I used to be the person who bought mulch from stores before.
Do you have to Mulch indoors ?
My tip:. Get your leaves, small weeds and trimmings (without seeds) and throw them on your lawn. Get some cardboard (like Amazon boxes), tear them up and throw on your lawn also. Mow it all up so you get everything mixed together. This will prevent your grass from matting together.
If you have a deep enough mulch, you can put kitchen scraps at the base of your plants and bury it in the mulch.
The big thing to remember is that you don't want this mulch to be right next to the stems while it's still somewhat green. It will promote damping off, even though the plants might be well established. Leave an inch gap between stem and mulch initially.
I used the leaves from my neighbors oak tree in my garden last fall to mulch my garden . It was the best thing I’ve ever done! It suppressed most of the Winter weeds in my garden and what did grow was easily removed! Only bad thing is the amount of acorns I have to deal with is insane!!
I just contacted an arborist that lives up the street from me. He dropped a truckload (probably 8-10 cubic yards worth) of woodchips. Going to mulch my garden and my huge avocado and guava trees.
The guy is nice. He waited until he gets a good quality wood before dropping it off when I ask (fiddle wood this time, last time was a nutmeg and another fragrant tree which smelled amazing for a good month).
Thanks for the advice about grass.
Mowing leaves creates a much better leaf mulch, but it takes quite a few leaves, which are easy to come by in Florida. Normal and regular prunings from banana, Bird of Paradise, pines, bamboo, sycamore, palm, and other trees, throw them in the back somewhere to dry them out, and them mow them up. It's enough mulch to cover entire bedding areas, not just a little bit around the base of a tree here or there.
Hi, we don't have a name for you so I just have to call you Young Man. Most people will never tell you what I am about to say. I am very proud of you for what you do for yourself. No-one would ever think of it but if you have a large enough River in your area that floods from time to time. Just look for the high water mark along the undergrowth. When it floods all of the leaves and pine needles will be clinging to the undergrowth along the high water mark. My husband gathers pine needles for when he is tending to his bees (honey-bees). I am going to go down to our river and get pine needles for mulch for my greenhouse. My garden is too large to mulch but I do have a jersey milk cow so I will be carrying barnyard manure and mulching the rest of the garden. Jessie from Arkansas
