  1. We eat lots of cornbread here in Oklahoma, we eat it with beans, purple Hull peas, milk and cornbread. I also love me al gravy on my cornbread. I make my cornbread and a cast iron skillet as I also do my biscuits in one I sometimes even do a peach cobbler in my cast iron.

  2. I grew up with biscuits and cornbread. Cornmeal is very versatile. Cornbread, hush puppies, corn cakes (like pancakes), corn chips and tortillas/tacos.

We have plenty of it stored away and we'll still be growing some.

We ordered nongmo whole yelow corn and we bought your grain mill.

We also bought steamed rolled oats.

  3. What a good idea. I bought 2 bags of feed corn and I’m going to nixtimalize it. You soak it in lye water and process it to make the vitamins in the kernel available. I’m so excited to try it!

  4. Cornmeal is not readily available in supermarkets etc here, or a frequent part of the British diet. I do make cornbread and buy small bags but would like more recipes as our healthcare store is able to get me a sack at a good price. If I can find other ways of using it, I'd like to put up a store of it for food variety to offer my American husband in particular.
Can anyone suggest recipes please? Pardon my ignorance!

  5. My mom had 7 children to feed and not a lot of money..she would mix flour with water and fry what we called flitters..spoon it out in the size of pancakes in a pan with butter and fry till lightly brown and crispy on both sides…we loved them like that and when we had it we would pour syrup on top..I used to make them for my kids..they liked them topped with jelly or peanut butter…honey would be good also..I still love them

  6. Glad you found corn meal. We were raised eating corn bread a lot with beans, stews, we had it instead of dinner rolls. The leftover cornbread I toast it and make cornbread croutons. Delish on a salad.

  7. I make cornbread a bunch I love muffins too I add cranberries around the holidays. You could very well do the dried cran blueberry it's a bit sweeter I add a bit sugar when mixing add in fresh cranberries comes out pretty good . We like Dunkin in our stews ,soups. Older eat cornbread and dip it in milk that's an old thing sparing eggs you just had cornbread. Have a blessed day thank you God bless 🙏❤️

  8. I’m new to vacuum sealing so I’m wondering what is the purpose of the brown paper bag?

  9. I need to store more of that we go through that with beans I love cornbread with pintos. I love to make cornbread dressing here in the South even though I am from NY I love bread dressing too, but prefer cornbread dressing. I just make up a batch of corn bread, throw in some chopped scallions and chopped celery, add a little garlic powder and a little poultry seasonings and bake it up. Once done break it up in a bowl add a cup to a cup in a half chicken broth mix in, you don't want it too runny just moist, throw into a greased pan put some pats of butter on top and bake till top browns. Hubby makes the best onion rings from scratch you won't believe the secret ingredient they're copy cat sonic onion rings but I think his are way better than I remember Sonics ever being. You cut your onion in rings, throw them in ice water, then you dredge in flour, then the secret ingredient melted vanilla bean ice cream, then you dredge in corn meal set aside on a pan till you get a good little batch to start frying up. Make sure grease is good and hot and fry about three minutes don't let them get too dark though. One big onion makes a lot of onion rings. You could even flash freeze the rest already coated and ready to go. Soo good they are. I bet your Mark would love them.

  10. In the south cornmeal is a staple used almost daily! I’ve stocked up on cornmeal and dry corn to mill if needed as it will keep long term much like wheat berries! Great tip for standing bag up in canisters!
I have polenta but I’ve only prepared it a couple times-I just didn’t grow up with it so it’s not often thought of.
Don’t forget to stock up grits too😋

  11. Love your show by the way. We like buying bulk corn it stores better and longer. Recently got a mill grinder to make rice flour for rice wraps and for coffee beans. Having a blast with it and when I need corn meal can grind up a batch. But yes we also do the paper bag and vacuum seal for a small supply on hand.

  12. We were at an Amish discount store near MIL’s several months ago and they had 5# bags of cornmeal for $0.99 each we bought 3 mainly because all the stores around us only have 2# bags / boxes or cornmeal mix with other ingredients added and I wanted to be able to cook mush for DH it is one of his favorite evening snacks.

  13. I have about 200 lbs of flour, meal and sugar stored. Is that enough? Probably not in flour and sugar since I'm using it daily and then restocking.

  14. I would like to see a video of how to make polenta. I have heard of it but never tasted it

  15. I just bought 2 of these big bags of cornmeal. I got mine at an Asian grocery store. I’m in Southwestern Ontario and paid 12.99 per bag. I love cornbread, so I made sure to stock up on this particular item!

  16. You can also make a basic
Cornbread recipe, add fresh chopped or jalapeños from a jar, and a can of either cream or whole kernel corn and
    Make some yummy Mexican
    Cornbread.

  17. Oh mom has always made fried cornmeal mush. To try it suggestion half the recipe. It does make a lot. That way you can see if you like it.

  18. Have you never had cornbread until now? I hope you and Mark enjoyed it. Add a tablespoon of sugar. Our kids like it that way. You can add jalepenos or make it cheesy as well. Here in Texas, it goes with everything.

  19. Just did this yesterday with my flour…20 pounds added to my 50 pounds already put up…all labeled…all purpose, self rising and bread flour. Don't know who came up with this method but I absolutely love it!

  20. Why couldn't you buy course cornmeal and then use a coffee grinder to grind down if you need a finer cornmeal?

  21. Another hint is to freeze your cornmeal for a week to kill off any bug eggs that might be lurking in the cornmeal before packaging. I do this with all my pasta and any flours I store.
