It made me feel better to hear YOU say that you look around your garden and see all of the mistakes you've made, I've made so many mistakes! I have a beautiful spot but limited time. Thanks for the encouragment.
As a suggestion, make a list of projects you want to complete. Prioritize the items on the list. Focus only on completing the most important item. Ignore the other items. Then, once the most important item is completed, start the next most important item. You can’t do everything at once. And, Rome was not built in a day! 🏟🏟🏟
Good thoughts and insights learned from experience. Good luck with your goals. You chose some good ones!
I went through a smaller scale version of what you're doing now a few years ago. I noticed I was growing indeterminate tomatoes in the center of my garden each year and they were shading everything to the northwest of them so I put in new beds against my northwest and northeast borders for all my tall things.
Why not hold off on moving the pond until spring and focus on moving the trees and bushes right now and get as many beds ready as possible for spring planting. Just a thought.
Love your garden! My garden was shaded from trees over time and I had to recently make some changes. Always keeping us busy lol
Did you find all those nice boulders on your land? I just had 8 bobcat buckets delivered for 800 bucks. Expensive!
I blew out a tire on my two wheeler dolly moving those rocks around. Make sure you max out the tire pressure first.
I have vine stuff on fences like you have your grapes but I put a double fence about 6 inches on the outer side to stop the freeloaders.
Sorry for all the comments… LOL. I have to do a list every night. If I don't I'm lost when I get out there the next day. And while I think of the items on the list overnight I usually come up with better easier ways to knock that out.
Greg does it make sense to change the location of the grapes? Or would it be better to add more grapes in a more protected location?
I so know how you feel.
You need a tractor!
Anyway you could build another fence 4-5 feet back behind the grapes with extra barb wire to protect them rather than move them?
Fingers crossed this nice weather holds a little longer. I just got home from a week in Nova Scotia, and the weather was beautiful. Also, it's amazing you can grow what you do. The only time we had a cloudy day was when we were in Peggy's Cove, lol. It was foggy, and windy, but we still had an amazing time.
Last year I was putting a fence around my garden so I enlarged it from 20 x 22 to 40 x 40. At the time I never expected i would be able to plant it all that season. I went out every evening I was able or on Saturdays and worked the sods out and prepared the ground one row at a time (all by hand with a shovel and a fork). By mid July I had the whole garden planted. I was very tired at times but the hope of getting it done was my encouragement. I ended up with an amazing harvest even though it was virgin soil.
I made a prime rib roast for dinner tonight, with roasted vegetables fresh from my garden, so inspite of the mistakes I made this year, I still get to enjoy amazing food. That's the end goal, for me. I have been making good progress on my own plans, with the nice weather. I do like your two pond idea; I think it would be pretty, even if it was just a stage in the garden overhaul. It'll all get done eventually!
One can whine about one's experiences or grow through them!
Oh to be young and energetic Greg! You are an amazing individual…I did a garden rebuild 18 months ago and am eyeing up another revamp BUT I think I will let it slide a bit longer….but I will bite off some smaller pieces of the new plan.
Great work Greg, keep on plugging away and get done what you can do…all good!
Have a great night!

Oh man if only … I hear what your saying. So many things I want to change that I did just a little wrong. 😀 at 62 it’s getting late to do to much but without goals nothing happens. I agree set goal and take care of things one of a time. It reminds me of a line in a move… I do one thing at a time, I do it very well, and then I move on. Ha ha ! I hope things go well for you 😊.
That was encouraging to me!
Thanks.
Keep at it!
When you get that major garden overhaul done you can put the grapes on the hill like a vineyard in Italy. Easy peasy lol
Like yourself I have totally redone my garden this year,I realized I had no choice,my garden this past summer was a disaster.I have redone all my beds, fliped the soil, carried a lot of 5gallon buckets of rocks out of the beds, some of them huge.I havea layer of brush over the beds which I will burn nest spring.I added rotten wood and rotten lawn clipings deep in the beds,I dug down about 2 feet on these beds.My beds are now ready for spring,so proud of myself,so we shall see what comes from all the hard work.It was a total mind set.
Awesome video. I heard you talk about everything but the tears you shed. It is sad but very exciting as well. I love your attitude and your knowledge.
I know exactly how it is!
One foot in front of the other 😂👍
at 13 mins in this video you were sounding stressed. Let me take one thing off your list. Save the little pond until last. I love the cute little pond and will be sad to see it go. So take it off the list for now… Please?
Good luck. Also have fun doing it. what would you think of leaving that grape vine BC it's so beautiful. Add a second in the garden for you. The other is for the animals so they don't hop the fence for your other produce? not sure though if it shades out other things too much… I am also always changing things in my garden too
Really like your renovation plans for the garden. Moving that apple tree was a great idea. And building multiple beds where you have one big bed will make it easier to move around.
A great time of year to get heavy work done in the garden. After a vacation I spent most of yesterday in my garden. I made a new bed this year for the raspberries so I need to move them from where they are now.
Look forward to seeing the changes in your garden.
You are very endearing with your honesty. Its refreshing to have someone be so honest and talk about all the mistakes and things that need to be changed. Things that we can learn from. There is not a lot of that out there. Thank you!
My .02 Leave the 🍇 just propigate it and grow yourself one in a more secure spot. Maybe raise the fence height and just let them have what grows on the other side?
It’s so easy to get overwhelmed, I am guilty of taking on too many projects and causing myself stress. I have put off my next garden expansion until the spring, (the black fly’s are currently having a celebration with me as the guest of honour) in order to finish all my canning, building a cold room and painting my entire main level. The project never end especially as an army of one. My motto has always been how do you eat an elephant? One piece at a time.
Glad you're keeping some of the rocks! I love that look and inspired me to use eucalyptus logs as a bed border.
My advice is ONE DAY AT A TIME! Don't get overwhelmed and look at your accomplishment and be glad.
Gardening is a learning lesson. We do our best and we learn.
Great video, Greg! I love garden planning! You have some great ideas.
