Why not use,a weeding / cultivating tool? Or, mix some 30% Horticultural vinegar in a spray bottle, with 2 parts water, or 3 parts water to experiment with your weed types.
It doesn't poison the garden or water table, & kills weeds, grass, etc. within hours. It kills whatever it's sprayed on, so you do need to protect plants from over-spray, by covering plants with a cardboard box, or by using a section of cardboard as a back board, to block spray.
Those phlox are gorgeous. I love how they smell! Everything came out great!

We are women of the garden right down to the socks and shoes!! Right now, I'm at the beginning so amendments, but also digging old shrubs and dividing plants. The music is familiar from dozens of garden videos I have watched.
You are inspiring. Wish I had your majestic strength. But thank heavens I have a smaller garden!😉
I also want to add my kudos to you for carrying 2 bags of mulch at once. I am in my 60's and I am not sure I could have achieved that in my 20's or 30's. But I did haul my daughter around so maybe so. Your garden was very pretty and I liked the blue shed. And it was very restful.
This woman is strong like an ox to lift 2 bags of mulch at a time.
