Give your vegetable garden a healthy start in the spring by following my four simple steps! 1) Inspect and repair garden beds, trellises, and other structures. 2) Tidy up by removing and composting garden debris and removing weeds. 3) Loosen the soil. 4) Add organic soil amendments like compost or aged manure as well as organic fertilizers, as needed. Are you ready to get growing?

I cover my beds with shredded leaves in the fall. This week I removed the leaves revealing a lovely bed of dark, uncompacted soil underneath. I won’t till it, but I have several buckets of homemade compost to add to the soil where I’ll be planting. I will wait until the wind storm passes before setting up my mini-hoop tunnel!
Niki mentions doing a soil test. Where can I buy a soil test? (Southshore Nova Scotia)
