Learn how to have a “labor free” garden. No Watering, No Weeding, No Fertilizing all season long. Is it possible? It is, with my off-grid, self-watering container gardening system. After many hours of study and testing I think I have found a system that anyone can use to grow almost anything almost anywhere. We can all become farmers and grow our own food.

That mix sounds perfect. Great recommendation.
I found the best deal at Lowes. 2.2 cubic feet around $9.00. Nurseries also have it but they were more expensive. Best of luck with your garden.
Roger that. Some people use black bags to transport meat and health and safety authorities warned them about the chemicals contained in the plastic originally aimed at preventing the development of bacteria and bugs but which also happens to be toxic to humans. Great vids, bro.
3.8 cf bale of peat moss ace hardware website free shipping to your store
instead of 70% of peat moss and 30 % perlite
can you do 60 % of peat moss and 40 % perlite
I haven't tried that. What you want is a mixture that will wick and hold water and allow aeration too.
What about domestic compost? Could you use it in such a system?
You would need to test it to see if it will wick the water and allow aeration.
Can you use the Mittleider weekly fertilizer in this bucket system instead of the one you show?
Yes, that is what I am recommending. Use 1 tablespoon a week per 5 gallon bucket.
Finally! A use for all those chewed up socks my dog mysteriously gets a hold of!
You probably want to make a tea with your compost to use in this system.
My thought too. With more testing we found hydroponic net cups work much better. The socks decomposed.
Do you throw away all the soil after the season? Reuse some?
You can reuse it indefinitely.
youve made a lot of changes and it's hard to know what exactly works best…can you make a video with all the updates in one?
Your videos are incredibly helpful! Have you been able to grow indeterminate varieties of tomatoes in these successfully?
How do you integrate the multiple plant+multiple bucket system with the wicking? Should the sock be vertical through each bucket? Will one sock be enough for 20 plants in each bucket? Should fertilizer be put into a sock and rolled into a cigar-shape and set vertically with the sock to bring food up and down the buckets? looking at your video …..watch?v=FBh1fjMqjmI
ditto
I understand the 70/30 mix of peat and vermiculite, Do you than mix 1 c of limestone in per 5 gal bucket? Do you/should you add any epsom salt ?
HOW MUCH WATER DID YOU PUT IN THE MIX?
Hello LDSPrepper, I started the bucket system , and it was going well . had it in a patio area , and I ended up stopping. i used the prime dirt and went to raised beds. One thing I did not like ,was the water became stinky, due the water not evaporating fast enough to keep buckets refreshed,Any one else mention this.can u ee mail me please gerrlab@live.com title bucket gardening / stinky water please
It also attracts snails too, this system is great but if you're growing a lot, this system take up a lot of space and materials. I'm currently in process of getting rid all my wicking containers and just use regular containers with irrigation from rain water.
So you don't use your Mittlieder formula for your 5 Gallon bucket systems? Interesting what you say on the screen about the 7:30 mark…. Something I have always known to be true…. Great video thank you for sharing even if I just now found it….
It's good that you are using organic fertilizer over toxic petroleum based Miracle Grow
Good afternoon, I just found "Simple Love Gardening" (seek google for it!) I learned a lot there.
Have you changed anything else since the updates in the video?
Can you use rabbit manure? It is in little balls and is not a hot fertilizer.
Can u use mittlieder fertilizer for this
