Definitely double layer the plastic so it can be inflated. That stuff will survive some major storms. My cousin has a dozen 30×100 frames all double layer inflated roofs. His roofs last much longer
Enjoyed the video. I have two cattle panel houses 8’ x 15’ x 7’h. One I use to winter flowers in. The other to start seeds for transplants. The one I use for transplants I have an old tarp on the ground for weed suppression. Going to put a tarp in the other one need to clean it out and use some roundup. I was going to start some transplants this week but by what you said I may wait until the end of August. Any thoughts.
Can you film a in depth how to build the greenhouse video?
You got us Texas folk stirred up over how to say Pecan. Just kidding, say it the way you want. Us Texas folk will keep saying it the right way.
That's going to be a great place to show some more great video's from . I hope they will let you film some of the build too .
You made good choices there from start to finish. I built my 12' x 24' quonset hoop house from scratch but I wouldn't do it that way again. Labor intensive. Buy a good kit. I used 5 mm twin wall Solexx and prefer it to sheet poly. I use mine for everything out here in the Mountain West, but keeping it cool enough is the hard part. I've seen how you use your 162 flats and you'll soon be in the seedling business. Big round of applause. Greenhouse Megastore for online components.
The seeds are on there way
Definitely Puhcun not pee can. Easy way to remember is you don't pee in a can
Worst of all is the sap sap black SAP
Nice!
That's going to be a game changer! Glad for y'all! I'm not going to even touch the "pecan" thing, I'll just say we disagree! 🙂 I know a guy near Montgomery who has a really cool setup that's stuck in my head for a while. He has a similar size greenhouse, but with a peak roof. He rigged a gutter system around three sides of the house, with a downspout that feeds a small catch basin he built. He uses an inexpensive electric sump pump that's equipped with a pvc "snorkel" attached to the pump, like what I use to water my garden, and he has it stepped down to attach a garden hose. He has a piece of pvc (don't remember the size, but not too big, probably 3/4" as that's standard "hose" size) with holes drilled in it, on both sides, that he runs down the peak of the roof. That pipe is plumbed female, to accept the hose as well. He fills the basin with clean water and turns on the pump and "waters" his roof. The runoff goes into the gutter, down the downspout and back into the basin, where it's recirculated. It's AMAZING how much cooler and more comfortable it is in that greenhouse!! I'm sure the plants like the extra humidity too. Really cool setup…..
One of the silver lining benefits of you being so busted up is that you have the time to make more frequent videos. You may not see it quite the same way. Heal up anyway.
I've used my 4-tier greenhouse for years on my patio 😃. It protected my herbs and strawberries during the great Snowmageddon here in TX! I wouldn't garden without it! 👍🏾👍🏾
Looking forward to your adventures in greenhouse land. 🙂
Travis good on ya, we really like your idea's. Edward and Paulette from Michigan
That tree your going to cut looks like a water oak.
Say it like I spell it, Puhcon…..Yall just wrong………
You cannot grow anything during the winter here in Minnesota without heating it, which would be about $1200/month, simply impractical for home gardening. Maybe extending the harvest of less cold sensitive veggies for three weeks isn't practical either or worth the investment.
Hey Travis can't wait to see the greenhouse ❤I just know you and Brooklyn and the boys will make it a great success❤God bless ya'll ✝️🌅🌻🧡
yay Greenhouse!!! Here in NH, we love our greenhouse. It's an old car port frame with 10mil plastic (Farm Plastic Supply) and a used pellet stove we picked up for a steal.
I’m glad to see your getting a green house. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the seed starting videos. Also I’m looking forward to seeing the construction. I built one TP2 style but didn’t put anything on the ground. Weeds and grass are terrible. Only had up since this spring. Gonna have to do something with the floor.
Is a Georgia Pea-Can related to a
South Mississippi pecan
Travis, can you share the kind of footwear you and your wife use in the garden? This old lady is in need of some comfortable shoes for garden work. My feet get so sore from regular hard garden shoes. Thanks!
FYI- Travis for some reason or other I got unsubscribed from your channel recently and I did not do it. Might want to give others a heads up on this. I like watching both you and your dads channels so I would never unsub….
I like that the 1 you're getting has tall straight sidewalls. 10×16 is a good size for starting transplants and should work out well for you. The 1 at Hoss seemed to work out well for your needs. I like the idea of getting a greenhouse and have the room for a 10×16 or even a bit larger. It's the use case that I haven't figured out yet. Spring seed starting would be 1 but at the time I start tomatoes and peppers, it's freezing outside. Heating a polytunnel when it's gets down to 0 F outside isn't practical. That leaves season extension as the main use and maybe a bit of seed starting in April.
good luck with the plastic, i have not been able to get a full year out of my 4 year plastic on my 16 x 30. every spring usually around march the wind just shreds it. the brutal summers here in central florida just seems to make it brittle. we are lakefront so there is no wind break.
that tree you are going to pop out looks like a laural oak

Hi Travis I plan to get a greenhouse later, but for now I start my seedlings in my basement. It’s so nice outside so I decided to start my broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage outside 2 or 3 weeks ago they germinated fast but they don’t look like they are growing much should I bring them in or just wait? I’m not sure how long it takes them to get 3 or 4 inches tall this is the first time I’ve tried to grow these plants. Thanks for any information you can give I love your family and the videos you make together those boys are the cutest little guys ❤️
Pecon!!!
Do I need a greenhouse if I closely monitor the weather? I want to start seeds for the fall but a greenhouse is not going to be an option.
I ordered bottom trays from Hoss Tools, never got them.I got 2 large seed tray in 2020.
That will be a nice set up.
I am going to make cold frames. And for the lemon bushes, I need to make a tent for frosty nights. I will rip treated 2x4s to 2×2's but for the siding and roof, I need to find something to use. Later the three tents will be used for summer starts. What would you recommend for the shell? also, you might want to consider a shade cloth to roll up inside. Lots of places using green houses use them. Blessings, Russ
It was like deja Vu hearing you say your wife said as long as it's not visible from the road. Those were the exact same words that came out if my wife's mouth when I told her I was going to build one soon.
Love the videos. I feel like you freed me to top water my starts. I prefer to top water, but since so many people are teaching bottom watering I felt like I was doing something wrong.
Always get it bigger than you think, you'll need it!
This is very exciting stuff! I’m okay with grow lights for my little garden plus our weather is so cold we would have to spend a lot of money on heating. If I was in your situation I would sure want one!!!! I would even want one here if my garden was bigger! I’m fascinated by those geothermal green houses that use underground temperatures to heat in winter and cool in summer.
I just got a hugh tunnel and I'm so excited and nervous about learning to grow a little bit of everything. 10 x 16 ft high tunnel in southern Ohio. Keep up the great job! I'm watching and taking notes.
I'm from Louisiana and my wife is from Illinois so we have the pecan debate pretty regularly 😂
