John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ goes on a field trip to OAEC, aka The Occidental Arts and Ecology Center to share with you a biodiversity of edible perennial and annual vegetables you can plant and grow from around the world in your garden.

In this episode, you will learn about the OAEC Certified Organic plant nursery and many of the perennial edible vegetables they offer. You will discover if John always purchases certified organic plant starts and if you should also… You will also learn about some of the more rare and unknown wild vegetables as well as rare edible tubers, leafy green vegetables and herbs.

This episode provides a wealth of knowledge in just 20 minutes of time to learn about many unknown and rare vegetables originally sourced outside the USA. All these plants are naturally grown, GMO-FREE, and certified organic.

You will see example specimens of many of these plants as well as many you can purchase.

  1. Great video John! I love growing perennials as I don't need to bother sowing them every year. We have many fruits and now hope to grow more perennial vegetables

  2. So long as climate engineering is going on and our plants remain in the open air, nothing, positively NOTHING, is organic.

  3. John Thank you very much for all what you do.    We grow all of vegetable now and for the last one year we have not purchased any vegetable from stores.  We also built a greenhouse to grow things during winter.    You inspired us.  Thank you……

  4. That last bit about the difference between a plant in a container vs the ground makes me so sad! Can't wait til I have a yard so I can have raised beds! Container gardening is all I can do for now but Its frustrating knowing how stunted my plants are.

  5. Hey John, wondered if you could answer me this question (or anybody else for that matter!)
I've got a load of non-psychoactive hemp seeds that I've been feeding to the birds and would like to grow them to eat the plants. Because of I wouldn't like to confuse the police where I live, I'd rather grow small plants inside and eat them when very young (maybe 10cm tall) instead of picking the leaves from a tall mature plant. Will I be getting the full benefit of eating cannabis this way? Is it worth doing it like this?

    Thanks

  6. Hey John,
I wanted to recommend a nursery to you. Its called pearson's nursery in vista ca. Its about 5mins south from Exotica and has a great selection of rare herbs. I got my naranjilla pant from there and its one of my favorite things to grow and it has a great growth rate  when its happy. I live down the road from both and next time you make it this far south hit me up for some of the fruits. You may get lucky and I will have some left over for you to try.

  7. Some plants can do really well in pots with proper nutrition. I had a cherry tomato plant once in a pot. It grew like a vine all along my fence and put out way more tomatoes than I could eat considering it wasn't the only tomato plant I had at the time. I measured it from where it came out of the dirt to the tip. It was over 10 feet long.

  8. hi . I'm trying to start an all edible garden ( seriously – my kid is autistic and has pica=eats no food but will eat strange things especially plants ) . you seem quite resourceful , so how about I buy seeds from you just 5 seed each  just to make sure I get it growing . I like perennials because I don't have time to replant . really interested in  tree collards , and strawberries , grapes for my zone  and goji I herd that can detox from heavy metals ( would like to save up for a juicer  and  vitamix too )  so your my guy for that . oh  I'm in TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO W.I.  , don't know what zone i'm in .
