  1. I appreciate your effort to remember what that orange plant is. Also a great video as always. IT SNOWED HERE, unbelievable! Edit: I hope my three butterflies in my greenhouse are okay. It’s too cold to go out and get them, so we’re hoping they’re okay

  2. Oh my gosh that Zebra Longwing was georgous! And so glad that the Swamp Milkweed is doing good. When we work all week it's sometimes hard to get things done in the garden that we want to. But we force ourselfs to do it anyway because the end result is always rewarding. Your mulch looks Great!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful garden with us. It's always a treat to look at it especially when some parts of N.Y got alot of snow last night. But where I'm at just heavy rain and wind.

  3. I just found your channel and enjoy it! We started our butterfly garden 1 year ago this month and have expanded it throughout the year. We just released 19 adult monarchs in the last couple of weeks from a giant milkweed that we had in the garage under grow lights. I am so excited to see your butterfly enclosures – thank you for this idea and the links. I would like to do this too because the wasps are such diligent predators. (That is why we had the monarch caterpillars and giant milkweed in the garage.) We have other butterfly host plants too – and I enjoy seeing all the different kinds of butterflies that visit our gardens. Thanks again for "showing" what you do – it really helps! 🙂

I have a similar territorial dynamic going on in my garden in the Summer, only between wasps.
The large, scary looking but harmless Sphex wasps that don't kill caterpillars will run off the Vespids that do, over nectar.
I have nicknamed them "Nectar Bullies". They help keep the Vespids from killing caterpillars and I encourage them wholly. Their target larval prey is Katydids.

    Is it Ruellia?
    18:50
Female Zebra Longwings like the male flowers belonging to both Papaya and any member of the Cucumber Family.
Mouse Melon and Canary Vine come to mind.
The females have a pollen trap at the anterior of their probosci and utilize the proteins in pollen in egg making.
As a bonus, females live up to 8 Mos whereas males live only a few weeks.

  6. What an awesome display of monarch butterflies all over your garden. The monarchs are proof positive that your strategy to convert your garden to a butterfly garden is off to a great start. Gee let's not forget the black swallowtail, sulfur, gulf fliterary and zebra long wing making appearances. With a beginning like this I can't wait to see how the rest of your 2022 season unfolds.

Your observation on how monarchs defend their territory is spot on. Last year I witnessed a monarch butterfly bully a giant swallowtail of my swamp milkweed. The monarch literally collided with the giant swallowtail forcing the giant swallowtail to leave. Monarchs are sure ornery critters when it comes to their home turf.

I am excited to see you have butterfly bushes in your garden. I have two in my garden. I don't know why the butterfly bush is tagged with being an invasive specie. I have had them for a couple of years now and I don't see any evidence of them spreading.

Again thank you for sharing your garden with all of us. I know the incredibly hard work you put into your garden not to mention the dedicated effort it takes to film and edit your YT channel. Susan you are a unique angel on this planet and we are all richer for your willingness to share your life with all of us.

Take care and have an incredibly great Butterfly Gardening Inspirations day!!!

  7. My milkweed finally decided it’s time to sprout ! After a long winter it’s finally coming back!

  8. Thank you for sharing your garden with me. I just love how it’s all coming together and growing so nicely! I love to garden and I also make garden videos. I in my 3rd year gardening. I have so much to still learn. I’d love it if we could learn more from each other! Happy gardening 👨‍🌾 🌷🌼🌻🌺🌸🌹🐝
