Lovely video. It made me wish I was there. It's cool and misty here today in Central AZ mountains. Did you harvest all your potatoes?
I wonder if you can can your soup? I have stuff in my freezer that I’m thinking about canning. I have hamburger from half a cow I don’t want to go to waste. I was thinking about canning meatloaf. Your soup looked really good! Your giving me some ideas. Thanks! Can’t wait to see what else you have. I have a recipe for corn patties, they are really good. It reminded me of them when you were freezing your corn. Thanks again!
Maybe the deer will eat the corn cobs if you throw them Into the Woods.
Kaye, an electric knife makes it go really fast. Zip, zip, zip!
We have a cat that is looks just like yours. We call the black spots on her back "wings". Therefore we named her Angel.
Thanks for the inspiration! Have a blessed day!
Great idea on the okra powder as a thickener. I have a couple of quarts dehydrated. I’ll try that. I think I’ve finally convinced my husband that we need to do more canning and dehydrating. Less freezing. It would be devastating to lose a freezer full of all that hard work. Your peas look delicious. We are trying zipper peas this fall. Love your channel and look forward to seeing you each time. Enjoy the little bit of cooler air!
Like 🙂
Kaye aren’t you afraid of seasonal blackouts of electricity? I’ve been canning everything in my freezer because I want shelf stable food since Texas has so little water left. Plus with supply chain disruptions I’m making sure I have 2 yrs of canned goods ( not bought). I have jarred up 5 yrs of various dried beans( vacuum sealed) and freeze dried a lot of fruit and veg. It’s not looking good with all the record heat in Europe and America. Now they’re saying we can expect record cold. I see your area will be hit with record snows. I know you have a canner, please get Daryl over there and have him help you get over the fear of canning. If you lose electricity a generator only lasts a few days. I have my whole house generator to run only my refrigerator, freezer and my bedroom a/c unit. I put a separate unit for that room only because I can not sleep if I’m hot. With a full tank of propane (250 gal) it will only do for 3-4 days.
Having grown up in N. Indiana, fresh corn is still my favorite veg and I love them all. But living South of Albuquerque for years, I missed it alot. Then I saw a man beside road in Bosque Farms with a pickup truck load of fresh corn. I stopped and he told me he grew it in Moriarty east on 40 past Alb. about 45 miles away. He would bring it several times a week in season to Isleta Pueblo because he could easily sell his whole load in a day to folks on their way home from working in Alb. I told him I liked freezing it on the cob, cleaning, blanching, etc. He said all that is unnecessary work. A woman from Nebraska had told him to just pull back the outer husks and remove the silk. Then close back up and remove half the outer husks and shorten stem if necessary. Bag and freeze. I only had my fridge freezer but did a whole dozen. And that Thanksgiving I served traditional/original corn on the cob to go with our big bird. A most special treat for our most special holiday, Thanksgiving. By the way, I really enjoy your music selections.
Omg, this video made me hungry! Great idea with the powdered okra, I had not heard of that before. You give such amazing tips and tricks. Definitely a goal for next year. This year, our garden didn't do well. I battled pneumonia and COVID, so the attention it needed from us humans wasn't there. FORTUNATELY for Bambi, Bambi tended to our garden! And Bambi brought friends too. Lol! So we have been going to the farmer's market. Louis Bodahmer says hey and sends his best wishes. You made such a good impression while here in Eastern Kentucky.
Keep inspiring and sharing your knowledge, it is so appreciated and needed. And way to go on the subs, your channel has come soooo far, I love it!! Much love my friend ❤
It is so good, especially as a single woman, to gave a good male neighbor. My daughter and I homestead and we are blessed with one such neighbor. We share garden bounty, buy our hay from him, and he is always lending a hand for those things we can't physically handle on our own. We are blessed. BTW, such beautiful carrots.
Kaye, newly subscribed, and I am really enjoying your videos. You are delightful. 🌞
I always cut off and scrape my corn! My very favorite growing up with southern parents! Here in South Dakota, that is unheard of!
That pea stew sure looks tasty!
That pea stew looked delicious! I’ll have to try that.
My veggie garden didn’t go well this year, I barely have tomatoes, 😩 I guess because of the heat wave? Well I’m still thankful that I have a garden to look forward to next year!😃
hello there kaye, thankyou, yes very helpful video, I really enjoyed, not made pea soup before it really looks tasty and nutritious,.thankyou kaye and you are getting on so well 😊 xxcant wait for the e next one, keep cool ,God bless 🙏you. xx.
Awesome video! I hope you do more of these types of videos. You are an inspiration! Blessings.
Finally, a homesteader that tells you to preserve, even if you didn't grow it!
There is a children's picture book I like a lot called "The Ox Cart Man". The book is for ages 4-7 and tells in a simplistic way, the year in a simple farm family's life pre-1900 or so. Like I said, simplified for little kiddos abut still very moving. Raised the crop then took crop to market and sold the crop and farm tools to get needed supplies for the family that could not be grown or easily made (or purchased materials to make such). The farmer then walked home a great distance and started again.
That pea recipe looks really tasty. I wonder if I can grow those here in Nebraska? Thanks!
Everything looks wonderful Kaye. The cucumbers reminded me of my failures with fermenting. Mary from Mary's nest ferments her cherry tomatoes with basil! OMG that is so good! They were my first success with the ferments. Are you going to be able to can your potatoes? How about any meat? I am thinking about biting the bullet and pressure canning ground beef, before the prices get worse. 😉
Brilliant show kaye ur cooking is so lovely to watch you should of open ur own restaurant called Keys best,,,, 👍😁 how wonderful that would be have a great day,, sweetheart 🙏👍😁😊😀😏fabulous show 🍎😃
Looks so good ☺️
Nice and cool always great! Thank you for your inspiration you keep my going!
Was drooling over the peas! Great video
I like how you preserved in so many different ways! That helps as well! You always have food! This is why I love your channel! Plus, you throw the Kitty kitties in there!! Love BJ!!
Hi Kay i ruined my first ferments. Here in Florida even with the ac on 5 to 7 days is to long . I let them 3 days then into the frig. My tri colored peppers are stunning. I just did cauliflower so we will see! Thank you for the video.
That soup looks sooo good!
I froze Okra this weekend. I would love your pea stew recipe. I will look on your site. Hopefully it is there.
Is Kaye originally from the South? Sometimes I detect a bit of an accent 🤔 love this video, so much great information 😍
Hey Kay, you must enjoy the fresh food before the winters. On the other hand I really don't have any idea of what you cooked..it seemed to me some beans mixed with carrots and other ingredients. .Must be yummy!
Best Regards, Sagar
great video Kaye. enjoy the cooking you do.
Kaye…try pickling in small quantities….i know it's tough doing it many times….but might reduce the wastage due to mould….we make it better when in little quantity.
Kaye I love your videos. I. Going to try and put up the pea meals. Also shared some of your videos to friends.
You are my favorite on YouTube!! Your videos are so interesting and delightful. You are a great teacher! And I get peace and knowledge watching your videos, especially in these times! You are beautiful inside and out, God bless you! Keep it up!!
Hi Kaye, Loved all the pictures you shared of you ferments!! Great job!! Glad you got ride of the one with mold. That can happen. Ferments can be so darn persnickety!! BTW – creamed corn was one of my favorites as a child too! Still is to this day. And I also love succotash!! Love, Mary
I go to vegetable farm and freeze beans, peas, corn and okra. So nice to have. We called it fried corn too. She froze the same way.
Great video
My ferments, I take to the point I like the taste and then store them in the fridge. I know they will keep much longer and have kept them much longer when we didn't have electricity, but they get super sour. My mother in law would open an older jar of kraut, wash it and cook it like cabbage. It didn't taste like fresh cabbage or sour kraut, but was edible and filled an empty spot.
