Given that nearly 80% of the population stay in an HDB home, and that there are only about 284 HDB landed units, that makes this week’s home a really really rare one. Homeowners Grace and Wei Xiang (together with their dogs Truffle & Chanko) always knew that they wanted something different, and when they found this landed HDB home at Jalan Bahagia they knew that this was it. It’s a 2-storey landed unit, with about 1,000 square feet of built up space, and 1,400 square feet of land.

They created a Japanese Zen garden in the front of their home by levelling out the whole porch, and it’s a really tranquil spot to sit and have a cup of tea. It’s certainly a really relaxing sight to see everything you get home. On the inside of the home, they made a unique dog house under the stairs as it was not used by the previous owners. They also hacked a room to shift the kitchen space, with a custom made dining plus bar island counter. It’s also here that you’ll find track lights embedded into the wall, which serves as a unique highlight in comparison to the rest of the theme of the home.

Special thanks to Grace and Wei Xiang for taking the time to show us their unusual home!

  1. 1 bedroom only? perhaps they'd move if they wish to hav kids in future, sell this off at sky high price and move into EC/condo

  2. Only concerned would be the enclosed toilet at level 1.

Do they have a fan to draw out the moisture within else it would be wet and moist all the time and mould might grow easily

  3. Love the garden. The rest of the house is a bit disappointing because it's kinda of a cookies cutter style.

  4. First time ever I see a HDB unit that looks like landed property. Didn't know these animal creatures exist.

  5. This couple would have to calculate properly cos after buying this, they cannot exit. If they can even afford to buy another pte property, they would incur heavy ABSD. This property TOP 1972, 50 yrs lease left and HDB would never SERS such housing. So they would have to hold it out till their old age or if ever, can find another buyer in the future, which I highly doubt.

  6. yes this neighbourhood is really nice; bright and airy, and not too densely populated unlike most other estates

  7. The video highlights the high cost of landed units in SIngapore. It would be revealing to have seen before-and-after photos of the renovation as it was not clear from the video itself how the $100k budget was spent (though the channel's written blurb provided a brief description).

  8. Cool simplistic design in the heart of Spore urban jungle … i would like to come home to tat…:)

  9. Hi can I check where you purchased the individual stone slabs in the garden leading from your gate? Thank you!

  10. They could have bought a masionette which would have more years left in the lease.
