9 Fig Tree Care Questions Answered | Chicago Hardy Fig Tree | Zone 5 Gardening | Guten Yardening —– Fast Growing Trees Link: https://bit.ly/3qzecRF ——————
In this video we focus on some of the questions you might have about growing your own fig tree.

Our Chicago Hardy Fig, which we purchased from fastgrowingtrees.com has left it’s dormant state, and is now taking off in our indoor growing space. This type of fig is hardy from zones 5-10, though our winters here in zone 5 are cold enough that we have decided to grow this tree in a container so we can move the fig indoors as necessary during the cold winter but then move it back outdoors as the weather warms up.

Please enjoy the video, and let us know if you have any questions we can answer.

  1. Timely video as always๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm trying to decide where to put my fig tree that didn't grow much last year but I think I'll keep him in his pot this year and see how he does ๐ŸŒฑ

  2. I've got 2 figs of unknown origin – one in a pot & one in the ground. The one in the ground is several years old but smaller than yours, but it's had some challenges – Hurricane Matthew dropped an oak tree on it a few years ago – took 3 weeks with the chainsaw to find it! On top of that, I have an over abundance of shade on my property (but the hurricanes have tried to help with that as well).

  3. Great information. Could be interesting to try and grow one. Thanks for sharing all your tips. Looking forward to watching how it does for you.

  4. I purchased two 14 inch Chicago Hardy trees last fall. They were dormant when I planted them in the yard in November 2020.
While I live in zone 7, we had a pretty tough winter and I was worried if they would survive. I checked them this week and the main branches are green and budding. Hopefully they will produce figs this year ๐Ÿ˜‹

  5. Hi! I came across you while searching how and where to plant my fig tree saplings. Great Video, Im glad I found your channel. Nice To Meet You!

  6. I have looked EVERYWHERE to try and buy a Chicargo Hardy fig tree, here in the UK but have not been successful. Can you help, please.

  7. LOOKING TO TRADE FIG CUTTINGS . . . I live in Maryland (Zone 7A) and will have plenty of Chicago Hardy fig cuttings that I am looking to trade for cuttings of other cold hardy fig varieties (Celeste, Brown Turkey, Violette de Bordeaux, Petite Negra, White Marseilles, Texas Everbearing or any other proven cold hardy variety). If ANYONE is interested, send me a message. Thanks!

  8. The growth doesn't necessarily follow the pot size. We have a local grower in ct that has a 25 foot tree in a 3 gallon pot

  9. And chicago hardy is a berry fig so they are sweet but they have berry flavors which is different from honey and sugar fig varieties

  10. Thanks for the great info. I got one of these at the store but it's really tiny. The trunk is probably 3 inches long and 1/8 thick. Do I plant this directly in the ground or grow it first in a pot and transplant later when it's bigger? If I'm planting it outside, of course I'll put a protective net around it

  11. I just bought one of these bare roots! We live in Montana, zone 5, so planning to grow in a container and bring inside for the winter. I would love to know how yours has handled re-potting, and if you have advice for how to water (does it like a long slow water, or do you treat it more like a houseplant?) Thanks for the useful info!

  12. Question for you! If the tree gets a bit more established–like after the first couple years or so–do you think it would be strong enough at that point to withstand a handful of sub -10 days?

  13. If you bring into garage to over-winter, does it need light? A grow light? Or OK in the dark? Thanks for the video!
