John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ shares with you what he is growing this year in his suburban front yard in a standard residential tract home. In this episode you will learn some of the crops you could plant in your front yard to produce food for you and your family. John will share many common and some rare and uncommon vegetables and fruits he is growing in his front yard so you can see how it can be done in a small space to maximize food production in small urban spaces.

Some of the more unique crops he is growing: runner beans, jerusalem artichokes, ashitaba, Bolivian cucumber, yacon, rao ram, achira aka edible canna, pineapple guava, sweet goumi and so much more.

  1. I've watched your videos from the beginning. I always love your garden tours. I was wondering if you would be able to do a video or talk about the upkeep of your raised beds besides just refilling them with compost. I saw one of your beds with a broken top, etc. I was just wondering how they are holding up after all these years and what you are doing to prolong their life.

  2. Hi John. Later in the season, can you show us a video on how you prune your grapes? They are so beautiful now. Are you using the same rock dust – boogie brew and all the other dressing on your grapes?

  3. You are such a joy…. looking forward when you introduce us to your new girlfriend.  Am sure she will love gardening as you.  Your garden is gorgeous.  Thank you for all the info that you share with each plant.  Have a loving day ;o)

  4. John your garden looks fantastic!  I have a perimeter fruit garden as well up here in Zone 3.  Grapes, Blueberries, Haskap berries, raspberries and Goji Berries.  I highly recommend the Haskap Berries or honey berries.  They are filled with way more antioxidants, vitamins and other goodness then most other berry crops!

  5. Kicking Butt! Thanks for all the awesome video's John and the inspiration! After implementing Boogie Brew's products with my normal regiment has lead to AWESOME growth this year. I have pretty much turned almost my entire back yard into a garden when I only had a 10ft x 5ft plot last year. You have helped in every aspect of my gardening and thank you for that!

  6. lots of knowledge you have shared with us today, will watch this video several times. using what I have learned from you in all your videos, I have double stacked tomato cages for my cucumbers and they are growing out the tops, that's close to 11 foot vines that I have topped out now to encourage branching. they are covered in cucumbers, oriental long type they are my favorites

  7. John, you continue to provide great info and inspiration. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Wait so you have a house in Sonoma County and in Vegas?   I swear I have heard you say often and talk about Vegas and as well here in Sonoma County….

  9. Hey John What happened to your perennial tree collard jungle, that had plants over 12 feet tall, that you use to be so proud of.

  10. Hey, You have Yacon too. We grew some for the first time last year and they tasted great. Now i have a few Yacon plants and 1 earth pear.

  11. The earth apple plants look beautiful. The leaves are amazing. I would grow this indoors just for the beauty of the leaves.

  12. John
Happy 4th of july to you, your family and plants of course
Thanks for th videos and all the best
    Cheers
    Kay

  13. Thank you for the great tour of your summer garden.  We saw another video from Possible.org.  They showed the amazing strength that you did in your video about the adverse struggle from those that want lawns instead of gardens.

  14. Hi John, I am a first time gardener and I am wondering if you have any seeds to sell or share? I am currently growing watermelon, cantaloupe, roma tomato, cherry tomato, lettuce, cilantro, basil, cabbage, strawberry, blueberry, green pepper, cayenne pepper, and chili pepper. I would love to grow some more vegetables.

    Thank you

PS: I like all of your videos by the way. I built my raised garden bed by watching your previous videos.

  15. This is incredible!! You are such an inspiration! I'm growing things for the first time ever this year. I don't have a lot of space so I built some vertical planters by myself and my seeds are starting to grow! I'm excited to see how I can transform my yard in the future!

  16. It was really wonderful to see a tour of your garden John. Very beautiful and its no wonder you spend so much time out there! I loved seeing all the variety of plants. 😀

  17. Loved seeing your garden again John.  The picture stopped moving around the 20 mark (when you were showing the Arrowroot) but your voice continued.  Not sure if its my computer or the video?  Thanks again anyway.

  18. The BEST!!!  That is the best front yard anyone could ever have. Thanks for all your inspiring videos.

  19. John, I love your channel and am a huge fan.  Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and insights regarding gardening.  With regard to growing fruit in shade, I have done quite well with red currants, black currants, gooseberries, and even red raspberries underneath a huge silver maple.  I also grow herbs such as chives, mints, and various leafy greens in the shade.  In the front yard, I grew a serviceberry (also known as juneberry and saskatoon) and the fruit are better than blueberries. It is also good in the shade.  I wish you a Happy Easter!  May God bless and smile upon you today and always!

  20. Just my opinion john but I see your bed is made of wood that appears to be deteriorating. Don't you think it would e better to be built from brick/cinder block?
