This whole month I am ‘Making the most of May’ with my good friend Diane in Denmark! One of my goals was to get my garden in top shape including starting some veggies for the first time. 🌱👩🌾

My friend Katy is a local farmer and gardening expert and I asked her to help me get some easy containers started that will work in pretty much any space!

  1. Hi, this was such a fun video! I’m going to look for larger, lighter pots! Thank you it was so informative. Baby is so adorable.

  2. Yes I finally did it! After watching this video yesterday, I felt confident to go buy the stuff and just do it. I'm thrilled. Thanks for sharing ♥️🌸🌻. Ready to relax for the bank holiday weekend here in sunny Dublin 😎🌞

  3. What a great video! I love Katy's easygoing way of planting a small container garden. I'm going to try this next year. I already have my containers filled with hot pepper plants that my neighbor gave me.

  4. I had to clear out all my beds this Spring to get some construction done. I have 3 of these huge containers full of lettuce , kale and spinach. I love it, will probably do it every year.

  5. This is great information. I'm attaching a link to a video of how to build a self watering container using 5 gallon buckets. You do not need to use buckets, but you get the idea. Now, we have a cottage in cottage country in Ontario. Every year I try and grow something, and every year what I plant mostly dies due to lack of water – no matter how often I water! I came across this and thought I'd give it a try. I made a self watering container out of "found materials" and right next to it I had a regular container. I planted each planter with the same flowers. I watered the regular container every other day. At the end of the summer, the normal container was a sad, sad copy of the self watering container. The self watering container was lush and full and bursting with flowers. Same flowers, same size, same soil, same food (given while planting, that time release stuff), same location, planted on the same day – all controls accounted for except the method of watering. I will never go back!

  6. Hi Steph, I’m a new subscriber. I found your channel from Diane in Denmark. I love your videos! I’m also working on growing a garden and I’m once again starting the fly lady system.

  7. This was wonderful!! I had no idea you could combine so many plants together. My daugther especially will love this.

  8. Can you make a video later on how to properly harvest each herb variety so I don't kill my plant😀. I bought 4 varieties of cherry tomatoes, dill, english thyme and mint. It seems that the tomato plants need at least 14" pot for each plant so I read on google site. So I will be getting more pots. I enjoyed this inspiring video! You are like having a fun neighbor even though you are 2 time zones from me! Your baby boy is just perfection! I think he is looking around mapping out where he is going to go as soon as those little legs let him! Hope you can do an instruction on proper harvest of herbs. Enjoying my subscription of The Secret Slob and my husband also is enjoying it too and he pitches in too! Blessings to you and your family!

  9. Love planting multiple plants in one pot. Just a heads up I had Mint in a pot on my deck. Now I have 4"×6" area next to my deck of mint. It spreads like strawberries.

  10. Wow, I never thought to put my lettuce around my tomatoes. I always put them in separate containers. The same with the herbs, I thought they had to be separated? I learn something new every day. Thank you.

  11. This was great. I have peppers, squash, eggplant and tomatoes in pots, oh and some herbs in pots on my patio.

  12. I call marigolds "Chris's bane". Chris is my brother, and marigold allergies have sent him to the emergency room more than once.

  13. This video is amazing! I learnt SO much from Katie about gardening. I find that YT gardening channels assume that we all have all this basic knowledge but that is not the case! Katie shared so much information that gives me the confidence to start gardening myself. Thank you!

  14. * Consider avoiding growing food in plastic. Also, is Miracle Gro non-GMO? Plants can absorb stuff like chemicals from plastic that breaks down in the summer heat & sun, and can absorb GMO's, too. Organic potting soil & organic seeds or plants can avoid all of that. I started with container gardening but found that planting in the ground is easier for me. I'm not in Canada, I'm in corn country of the U.S. (hot humid summers, cold winters).
