We are in to Autumn now and there is an abundance of wild foods and medicines still to be found. We are very blessed. We may think that our plant relatives are dying away but there is still so much to harvest. Here I am talking about just a few things that I have found in an afternoon.

Blackberries being full of Vit C, Vit A, Vit E and Vit B6, along with other powerful anti-oxidants, make a great food at this time of year and can ward off the common cold. I make jam and chutneys with them and freeze some for a treat in a pie or crumble in mid-Winter.

Nettles are one of the most wanted medicinal plants being food as well. Suddenly they are flourishing again as they do in Spring so I have gathered a bunch to make a nourishing soup. Beneficial for men, women and children they bring welcome nutrition just as we need to build ourselves up for winter.

Hawthorn berries make a wonderful tonic medicine for the cardio-vascular system, for all manner of cardiac issues. They also benefit sleep and relaxation so are very much welcome during such stressful times and when we really need to give care to our hearts – on a metaphysical level as well.

  1. The blackberries are something I will always remember from my trip to Ireland. So vibrant, big, and sweet! I am surprised they still grow so late into October! Ours here in New York are done by the last week in August!

  2. I didn't get a notification for this video. I was looking for it as today is Sunday. How's the flooring project going? I wish we had berries here like you do! I live in Wyoming, US. I'm on the plains and not much to forage here. Lots of sagebrush and thistle. Love your videos, thank you! 😊 ❤

  3. Hi Terry
Ive just found a lovely patch of Plantain growing near me and I cant find the vidio that you talked about using it. Would you mind letting me know which one it is please? Thanks Lyn in Australia

  4. You're absolutely right Terry, in nature there is no scarcity at all, it provides us with everything we need for a healthy life. I love foraging all year round, every season has got wonderful gifts. In this period we have also plenty of chestnuts and walnuts (so many neglected trees in my area!). Also plenty of herbs thank to the Autumn rains. Gratitude and contentment are the keys. Thank you for promoting this way of life 🌿💚

  5. Lovely to see you foraging along the footpaths. I love to forage where I live in Scotland. An abundance this year of all berries apples & hawthorn. Think it’s about fear the messages about scarcity. Gratitude for natures bounty. Thank you Terri

  6. Another great video. Aren't we lucky, living on a planet where there is so much abundance (well, maybe not for all of us). I live a similar lifestyle to yours. Gathering and growing food and medicine. Right now there is so much abundance in the garden. This growing season started out difficult (weather wise – a very cool and wet May and June) but by now what is growing in the garden is doing very well. I feel blessed to have this small cabin, big garden and everything I get to share with folk in this mountain village. Thanks for all the things you share with us. Cheers to you Terri!

  7. Hi Terri I’ve had an amazing show of field mushrooms around the fields by my house and even on my lawn which is fantastic.I found a few Puff ball mushrooms too.The flavour is so much better when freshly picked and eaten.A glorious time of year x

  8. Thank you very much for this video! 😘🐾🐾🐾🐾 Gratitude always dissolves the mindset of scarcity. 🎉

  9. H ere in the US Ifind the berries are ready in late july-aug.I would love to find a patch this time of year! Bittersweet &honeysuckle are the berries that are coming on now. I dont know what to do with these but they are pretty

  10. Food scarcity is only made up, all around us there's plenty of food and we won't go hungry at all. 😊

  11. Thank you Terry ! I've noticed that down here in Cork too.. a LOT of hawthorn berries this year !!

  12. So interesting we have an abundance of nettles all around where we live .I've never tried them but I'm going too x

  13. Thank you for bringing the ancient art of foraging to the forefront. Perhaps this will cause people to consider the responsibilities we all bear toward taking care of our Mother Earth.

  14. You live in such a beautiful area, the wild plants, sea, sky and rocks are amazing. Blessings xx

  15. We have a 'greenway' (decommissioned railway) right outside. Lots of blackberries (but they struggled over the summer drought) and I think they're called crab apples (golf-ball sized apples). Are they ok to eat or just cook them?
Oh, about a year ago, you did a lemon balm video. I'm now growing it and enjoying an infusion from the leaves, thank you.

  16. We will have our first frost this evening. Goldenrod has been my main foraging focus at this time, but plantain is on my list as well.
I am a wee bit jealous that blackberries are still available to you ours fruit early in the summer, then done. I am in North Carolina, USA.
    Happy foraging!
