This week we are unpacking and setting up a pond filter system for our shallow pool at the house entrance. By doing this we hope to being able to keep the water clean and free of algae without having to use any additional substances. We share the results over the first days. Our frog friend seems to be happy about this idea.

  1. Great work! Algae is natural to any healthy water. More in less healthy waters. While different poisons may stop it, you filter will not. Cleaning the rocks every year will be necessary If you want white rocks.

  2. Si ponéis la lámpara uv, conseguiréis que no se formen esas algas unicelulares y es como se la tendrá claro.

  3. There are different kinds of algae(technically a lot of what tints the water green isn't algae but microorganisms), while the filter may help with the algae that lives in the water column it won't stop the ones that clings to your white rock, in fact it will probably help it grow a bit. The fact is if the pond gets sunlight it will develop algae, to minimise this there are a few ways, you can add the same chemicals one would add to a pool or clean it naturally, fish help immensely but if you are against the idea snails work well also, they mainly eat algae and will help a lot to eat the one that cling to surfaces, for the ones that float in the water plants will drastically help, they will not only block the sun a bit that helps but mainly they will consume the exes nutrients that cause the water to turn green. As to what type it depends on the look you are going for, do some research, the best for clear water are stuff like duckweed but they kinda defeats the purpose for obvious reasons. I would put some water lilies are some type of reeds but most plants will work.
