So this is a Morning vlog, going over thoughts on using and saving your totes for years, and how I messed things up really bad after I told you the right way 😬. Totes can last for many many years even the thinner ones the lightweight ones, as long as you treat them right. And cardboard boxes hey they are good for one season and then after that you’ve got free soil. And boy did the trip to the nursery work out really good for us, I made out like a bandit.
This is TULLE that Great Fabric SO CHEAP and last all year outside here, here is an aff. link to check out, many colors, I usually get one of the greens, but any color will work great: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575376117&toolid=10001&campid=5338267736&customid=&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FTulle-Fabric-Bolt-54-X40yds-Wedding-Bridal-Party-Favor-Decoration-Tutu-Craft%2F381670793265%3Fvar%3D650737116165

Robbie! I cannot wait for a garden tour! The longer the better. I've been re-listening to all of your videos, just to have a friendly voice in my background as I do my chores & plan my garden. I can't wait for the new nature walks & vlogs.
Best from your jersey tomato , Mary xoxo
I use broken pots etc for covering the big holes in bottoms or sides of some pots i have been given. They waste too much dirt if i dont. With the thought of night coming, im say to all, good night, sleep tight, dont let the vampires bite. Hang that garlic by u beds, you will sleep much better nights with the aroma.take care.
One year, I used an old baby bathtub to plant my nasturtiums and I set it on top of my birdbath. It looked so cool and they draped over the edge and it was so beautiful… Until the baby bathtub disintegrated! It could not handle being out in the sun. So yes, all plastics are not created equal and those little waiting pools that kids playing are definitely made for being in the sun. So thanks for bringing this up!
Hey Robbie. I have watching your videos ever since I found you when I was researching hummingbirds. You must spend half your day refilling and cleaning. I have 4 feeders and we love watching these little guys. And now we're thinking of growing some veggies, so I am watching your videos all the time. I really learn a lot from you. What/where is one of your favorite nurserys?
We just got more nasty white stuff it had warm up spring flowers had started grow it suck I don't like cold why didn't it go away and stay gone ??
Thanks again for sharing this Robbie I enjoyed watching.
With your box garden aren't you afraid the tree roots will get in there? Another amazing video, my Tulle came in yesterday, I still need some totes but in the midwest we can still get snow in April
I’m going to try cardboard boxes covered on the sides and bottom with chicken wire – which I saw on another YT channel – instead of all that plastic.
I'm glad it's a beautiful day for you there Robbie, it's snowing here in Ohio, hopefully this is the last time for this year!!!
When are you going to do the ginger and turmeric? Or have you already and have i missed it.
Wow…this explains why a couple of my totes have broken! They were the ones that were EMPTY!
Me and my husband are on the island of Hawaii and I've been amazed at how big the plumarias are here, like trees,so beautiful! I have some in big pots home in south Texas, I don't put them in the ground because we do have freezing weather here in Texas a few times a year. I've been babying them for ten years and I love them. I've got above ground boxes I built for my veggies and have almost everything planted for this year and waiting excitedly to see what harvests I'll get this year.
Your story about the seedlings and your tomato plant that was damaged reminded me of a question. You rooted that from a broken stem. Can you use the stems from the tomatoes in the grocery stores that are still attached to the vine to get new plants?
I bought a small pot of Swiss Chard at my local garden center that had 10 young plants in it. 🙂 Now I have plenty of chard for green drinks and cooking.
Robbie, you sound exactly like the mom in A Christmas Story and I just love it!! Please say "you'll get worms" in one of your videos and my year will be made. And hey, worms even work for your gardening videos! 😁 😁
Robbie I love your channel but I have a question, how do I find a video that I want to watch again and I cant find it on the sidebar ?
Hi Robbie – I really enjoy your videos (especially your hummingbird videos)! I also think your idea of gardening with totes is so interesting – especially as people get older and having a tote raised up (like on a plastic chair) so they don't have to bend over. I am a little hesitant though to grow things that we eat in a tote because of plastics and microplastics leaching into the soil. I live along the Gulf Coast where it gets pretty hot, and plastics really break down here. Have you been concerned with this?
Thank you
Yes ma'am, my son just switched out my cracked and broken totes. Thanks for the suggestion. However, mine had kitchen scraps for composting and broke up. (It was big and blue)
Glad you mentioned about the black totes cause I was thinking about heat, so now I know and don’t have to be afraid to buy those. Never thought too much about the nurseries. Sure does give food for thought!
Does it matter if the totes are not food grade?
Thanks Robbie. When you mentioned that they may be doing something to the seeds, so that you can't reuse them, I think that is just the way they do the hybrids.
But what if they could do some genetic hocus pocus on our heirlooms as well! Scary thought. Who knows, they may attempt crypto-seeds next! 🤣
Hi. Just discovered your channel. This is my first year trying totes and raised bed gardening. I am making mine as self wicking. Have you tried this? If so, what kind of results did you have. Tysm for all your tips. Love your sight and will visit again. : )
SO happy I found you again. You're the mint tea lady. Appreciate your very useful teaching videos. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!
