Hmm!!! Perhaps a few goats coming to the new property????
Laura, this will be beautiful all winter and I’m amazed at your knowledge. You and your mom looked like Ruth and Naomi gleaning the fields.
Good morning. Would you please tell me where you got the citrus squeezer with the cup attached? I can't seen to find it anywhere. Thank you so much. 💖💖
Looks good! We planted wheat as cover crop on a 30 x 40 ft bed this time last year and are getting ready to do it again. It was so beautiful! Meant to cut it for green manure in spring but decided to see what would happen if we let it develop to grain stage. Harvested 150 lbs. of wheat berry! Had to figure out how best to cut, thresh, and winnow on small scale but really rewarding.
I though HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL!! SURELY SHE ISN'T GOING TO PLANT THE WHEAT ONE WHEAT SEED DOWN, THEN SCOOT OVER AND PUT ANOTHER LITTLE SEED DOWN. I thought she might see her family in a couple of day's if she does it that way. I kept thinking, pick you up a hand full a scatter them baby's everywhich way. You know they'll grow cause LAURA planted them.
On a change of subject, why aren't you just leaving your hair straight? I loved it that way!! Of course you can wear your hair the way you want too but I think you looked " more comfortable" with your hair straight. Listen when I work in my garden ( which is NOTHING) compared to your garden I sweat like a hooker sitting on the front seat of a church. That's Southern talk…lol. I don't care what I look like when I am planting or working in the yard. Of course I'm not making a YouTube video either..lol. My father in law has one of those gadgets that dries stuff. I need to borrow his and dry me some apple's. I like the dried okra. It taste pretty darn good. I need to dry me some oranges to put on my Christmas tree.
Laura you shocked me. I thought you said you'll plant it just so, with the proper spacing, and then you just came out and threw a hand full of seeds onto the ground.
I planted winter white wheat a few wks ago for the first time also, and I did it the same way. I used my hand to broadcast the seeds, then raked them into the soil. I'm hoping for a good turn out.
I live in wheat country Kansas and it's an awesome sight to see the golden, ripened wheat heads sway in a gentle breeze in the fields. Good luck with yours. Also, I noticed the amaranth and was wondering what varieties you have planted. Love your, very informative, videos.
Where did you buy your wheat?
I think you seed the wheat so thick .. maybe you will have to remove some of it when it came out .
I'm so glad you are growing wheat! It is going to be very interesting! I agree with others how blessed you are to have this land. You and Aaron are doing a great job. We don't have alot of space here. But you always motivate me. Blessings to all your family.
I’m very interested in your wheat growing progress 😊
Another interesting video. Thank you.
My father often planted a "green cover" crop (usually buckwheat) after harvest that he would later till under to add to the soil.
Hi Laura … YOU HAVE TO PUT A SCARECROW NEAR BY THE WHEAT BECAUSE OF THE BIRDS NOT JUST FOR NOW BUT WHEN IT WILL CAME OUT THEY WILL EAT IT ALSO !!!
We live in the heart of the county and in the wheat states. My granddaughters and I milled wheat this summer. I gave them a lesson on “Farm to Table”. They learned how to grind it, we weighed it & figured out how many cups of flour you get from a gallon of wheat. Then we figured how many loaves of bread we get from a gallon of wheat. It was a fun project for them at gma’s house!
FYI…one gallon of wheat yields 8 lbs. = 30 cups of flour which made 8 loaves of bread.
you did a great job adding compost on top of the seeds and
you could plant wheat next year in the new property if you like the wheat
also you could plant corn and more crops on the new property too
I love how that man in the video showed up just as you were finishing your project. Probably wanted to know if he could help (now that you were finished) 🙂 Great presentation! I just enjoyed looking at your beautiful landscape and learning a little about planting wheat. Thanks
We dehydrated apples yesterday with cinnamon. Turned out really good! I like your Sedona better than my Excalibur because of the stainless steel racks. Also looks like a smaller footprint. What is the lemon juicer you have? I love the the little cup to catch the juice. Bye from Sequim WA!
Scarecrow for the wheat!
Several. Even.
Maybe your wheat rows will be a place for your straw man, woman or child.😂
For a moment I thought Laura has finally recognized how to work with nature, not against it. Wrong. Seeds treated with fungicide are detrimental to the soil biology and harm the environment, not to mention the impact on human health.
I would have broadcast the seeds, too. You can always thin them after they germinate if you need to.
I had wheat germinate from some straw I used in my garden. Don’t worry it will definitely grow! Good luck💕
You should try other grains to grow so we can learn too. Several people at our community garden grow amaranth for the grain, not just for decorations. The new, new property is a perfect spot. 😊
Hi, can anyone help me on how to kill mushroom's that have taken over in my yard, I read baking soda will kill them has anyone ever used this and how to it? can this be bad if you walk on them, like for my dogs? any help would helpful. I prefer a natural way to kill them. Thank you
Hi Laura; I have a question; how long if your family doesn’t eat a lot of the apples at one time; how long will the apples last; how do you store them and in what kind of containers?
Wait your're supposed to bury drip tape!? I just do it after you, and rather avoided burying it 😂
Planting starts around 11:50. Should be a nice crop.
Hi Laura could you please let me know where you got your lemon juiceer with the juice holder? I would so appreciate it thank you!
Did you know another use for wheat is "wheat weaving"? There are many designs, they are so interesting and amazing. Once you learn the basics it"s not that difficult. Also, I put a bit of cinnamon on some of my apple slices when dehydrating, try adding it to peach slices, too. Both are soooo good! I have really enjoyed watching you through the years, so many interesting projects and updates to your property. The "farm girl" in me is excited to see you venturing into the wheat crop. Blessings to your family!
I think this wheat would be beautiful planted in the new space you have along with lavender and maybe(?) Some corn? Maybe once you get some water to that area. I imagine that area being so pretty like that 🙂 Of course no matter what you do it turns out amazingly gorgeous!!
I went to a craft show a week ago and they had a bundle of wheat of some kind and they wanted $45 per bundle!! Per BUNDLE! It was beautiful but not for that price.
We love dehydrating our food. Dried fruit is a great snack. I’m wondering what brand your lemon squeezer is. I’ve not seen one like that and it would be an improvement to the one I’m using. Good luck with the wheat growing. It’s a beautiful crop.
Laura, where did you find your lemon press? What a great way to collect the juice.
You should’ve used the Wizz!! On a low setting to spread the seed would’ve been fast and easy.
Looks like you may need a scarecrow!
It’s always nice to sprinkle the apples with a little bit of cinnamon before going into the dehydrator also! So tasty!
Can't wait to see the wheat crop. I think it is one of the most beautiful crops at all stages of it's growth, even after it's cut and looks like a field of scrub brushes!
Hey, you could have used Aaron's new push bucket seeder thingy. That may have worked really well with spacing issues. Can't believe you did the whole thing on your knees but it is exactly what I thought you were going to then thought no way – she will not do that! LOL
