DIY Container Garden – Self Wicking

What you need:
1. A container of your choice
2. 4-6” “Drain field” Pipes with slots or holes
3. 3/4-1” PVC Pipe 4” longer than container depth
4. Weed Cloth – 3” larger, on each side, than container
Tools needed:
1. Knife or Hack Saw
2. Drill for weep hole and fill pipe hole – size accordingly.

Tune into part 2 for the best soil mix and finishing touches.

  2. Maybe I'm jumping the gun and this will be covered in a future video. When you fill it, do you put a layer of sand between the weed cloth and the soil mix? I've heard that this helps to wick the water into the soil better. I'm very interested in this as I have a TINY backyard and need some options other than in-ground planters! Great video Kevin, keep up the good work guys!

  3. Kevin, thanks for the video but I don't understand why you think you need an air pocket in the pipes. Also, If your overflow comes into the middle of your bottom pipes you'll never fill the pipes with water. Thanks, you gave me some good ideas.
