In this video I wanted to show how I fixed my water catcher that supplies water to my chicken coop. When I first built this chicken coop I was only trying to design a way to store a bit of water and food for the chickens if I needed to vacation. It had no rain catcher roof in the early days… That came later when I suddenly realized how easy it would be to add one.

With all the rain we get here in Florida it seems silly not to store a bit of water. The chicken coop and catcher combined are 5 x 17 feet. At the beginning of this video I show how it lightly rained here (5 minutes maybe) and how all 5 gallon buckets (20 gallons total) pretty much filled up.

After a while in the hard Florida Sun, the original blue plastic I used started to fade and develop holes. Which made the rain catcher kind of useless. So before my grape vine starts going crazy this year and before our annual rainstorms come I wanted to fix it. I’m not an expert on rain catchers so I just got the thickest plastic and double lined it this time. My hope was that the grape vine would cover the entire thing and shade it but the Florida Sun is beating the grape vines growth rate. Nevertheless, I fixed up the rain catcher better than ever and added a whole slew of new features to make everyone’s life a little easier.
