Often times we find that our gardens are lacking interest during the fall and winter, so today I am sharing two great shrubs that will help to resolve that problem. Join me as Brynna and I enjoy this glorious weather while spending time in the garden!

  1. Brenna understands what you say. When you had the pot in your arm she kept looking up at you, waiting for the empty pot. She sure is a a cute garden companion.

  2. Brenna is such a sweetie ❤. I love GS; they are so smart and are so devoted to their people🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

  3. Thoroughly enjoyed this, Jenny! So wonderful to see how much Brynna loves being with you in the garden, bless her sweet little heart 💕💕

  4. Thanks for sharing! Gorgeous plants so healthy! Brenna is so adorable! I bought some landscape fabric but I think I will use it in the rock garden! Thank you, Jenny!

  5. Barberry are great growers and beautiful at all times of the year in our zone 9. B is a great gardening partner too. She's lovely.

  6. Landscape fabric as weed control is a bit misleading. Any dirt that eventually settles on it hosts weeds just fine. Aggressive grass will also make its way through as well. I pulled some up that was placed twenty years previous. The soil beneath was total garbage as they had just spread it over an old lawn. I ended up bringing in several cubic yards of new soil to rejuvenate the area.

  7. Those are some pretty lil red bushes. Im zone 9b so can't grow them here. Can't wait to see them fully grown in future videos .

  8. I feel ya with that landscaping fabric. I also put it down when I first moved into my home. After a couple of years I did pull it all out. What a job that was. My soil is slowly but surely getting better now. Can't wait to see the barberry plants get big. That will be beautiful!! Love me some Brynna. Such a loving dog. ❤️

  9. wowzer – two of my favorite shrubs !!! brilliant color and fabulous fragrance – just the thing for any garden … I love 'em !!!! 🤩

  10. Is it true that Barberries attract and house ticks? The color is stunning but I was afraid to plant them for that reason.

  11. Thank you for the advice on the landscape fabric. I did put this in my flower beds but I am finding it a pain when planting and all the mulch is breaking down but not enriching the soil beneath. I do have bindweed and ground elder which in the uk are annoying and try to choke or bully the other plants but having the soil covered hasnt eradicated the weeds in any case 😢

  12. I’m in one of those northeast states where we can’t buy Barberry…but, back before it was restricted, I did install some (25 years ago?).

They are easy, forgiving of a hard prune & have great color. And yes, The many deer that parade thru my yard avoid for sure.

Whereas rose thorns will simply scratch, these scratch AND the tips of Barberry thorns snap off & get under my skin even with decent gloves on! They are sneaky in that you may not feel them for a day or more. So, I suggest you use your best thorn-resistant gloves & farmers sleeves if you want to avoid Barberry “splinters”.

  13. Jenny we bought a place 3 years ago and there is an area of the yard where I've pulled up (I kid you not) 5 layers of landscape fabric. The last layer must have been placed 20 + years because it's actual plastic and is coming up in small pieces. i think this layer was to go under a layer of rocks. Unfortunately; the rocks washed down the hill and I'm digging up a layer of rocks in a separate area.
