We continue this week with building our raised garden beds using only wood found on the land. We have a special guest visit to teach us about the trees on our property and really dive into this epic garden build. This being our first organic garden that we are starting ourselves beginning to end will show us if we can grow the majority of our food while living off the grid. Its a lot of hard work but filling us with excitement to know we are on the road to self sustainability. Growing our own organic food while battling the everyday setbacks of off grid living is surely testing our grit and will versus that of nature but together we know we will build the homestead of our dreams.

Although our Bushcraft skills are at a minimum we keep pushing forward and with every failure we learn a better way of how to homestead. Living off the land is not something we ever thought was possible in today’s society but with determination to escape the rat race, we inch our way to a happier, healthier existence not only in harmony with our own bodies but in oneness with nature all around us.

Follow our off grid vlog Little House Off The Griddy and lend us your experience or learn from what we do right or wrong. We hope you enjoy our raised garden bed build as well as our off grid journey. We sure had a blast and hope you Stay tuned for more from Sean & Jes

  1. 1) keep the black walnuts away from the veggie garden (it puts out juglone which can keep a lot of veggies from growing), and if you haven't spread the horse manure yet, be sure to take a bit, maybe mix with some of that topsoil and transplant or sow some broadleaf veggies in it to see if they grow. There is an increasing problem where horses are either fed hay, or have it used as bedding that has been sprayed with an aminopyralid broadleaf herbicide in the pasture before harvesting. Nevermind what the label says, it's being proven it can be eaten, eliminated, hot composted and still kill or stunt broadleaf plants for up to 5 years. Test it before spreading it. Just an fyi

  2. I enjoyed the video. The garden is coming along beautifully. Labor intensive! That's smart to put a scoop of rocks in the hole before setting the trellis poles. That leaving space for drainage that you wouldn't otherwise have if you set them in dirt which would cause them to rot sooner. Nice.

  3. Yah!! Plants in the soil! Well done guys!!! Keep up the weaving it'll look amazing, excellent work 🙂 Love having my Monday morning coffee with you! xx

  4. ITS ALL LOOKING SO GOOD, GLAD SPRING IS IN THE AIR. I REALLY LIKE THE WATER FEATURE IN THE WAYBACK…. BE KOOL TO PUMP AND FILTER THAT WATER FOR STORAGE AND USE.

  5. I’m so sorry I missed the live premiere!!! I REALLY enjoyed your special guest. What an amazing opportunity!! Everything looks great! ! You’ve been working so hard and it shows! Huge progress this week wow! I can’t wait to see next weeks video. Some more green will be popping up!!!

  6. Inspiring to watch with an awesome guest as well. Song choice as she plants the peas is perfect and what a divine moment. You and Landstruck are showing everyone that it is truly possible to escape the distractions, rediscover our nature, and like you said focus on becoming a better person. Thank you.

  7. So exciting!! You can never stop learning!
Love watching your journey, stay safe and healthy.

  8. I don't think I've ever said the phrase, "I'm super pumpped", especially concerning learning about gardening. Ya'll cute.

  9. Great video. I remember years ago Wren taking my sister and I in the woods of Illinois teaching us about nature.

  10. Hey guys great episode this week… missed the live cuz it was past my bed time lol… yall hammered it out this week for sure…. everything is looking great… would using the chainsaw when you're cutting all the stakes for each bed be quicker if you lined them up evenly on one end and just made one cut all the way thru… keep it up guys love what's going on…

  11. Hey guys it's my first time watching you. We're just starting out working on our property which is an old house in Mesilla Park, New Mexico. It's full of downed trees and branches and I have come up with the name "tree stump homestead", for my aunt that said she could make a home out of a tree stump if she had to. Well the properties paid for and we might as well use it so I'm going to make a home out of a tree stump because there's lots of them over there lol. We've done a lot of work in the yard already and it'll take months before we get inside the house to clean it out paint, sand the floors you know all the good stuff. But I'm getting a lot of good advice from all the homesteaders out there and learning as much as we can. Right now we're living in a 38-ft fifth wheel and I'm property manager of an RV park, so not homeless but we want to get over there to our property as soon as we can. Anyways I'll be watching I'm going to subscribe right now. 🙂 Breeze from New Mexico
