Florida has a tropical climate in the summer, so we only plant the most heat tolerant crops in July.
Websites that offer seeds for some of these heat tolerant vegetables:
1) ECHO farm: https://www.echobooks.net/bookstore/seeds/
2) Southern Exposure Seed Exchange: https://www.southernexposure.com/
3) Baker Creek: https://www.rareseeds.com/
4) Seed Savers Exchange: https://www.seedsavers.org/
Gardeners in North Florida may want to start seeds for slow-maturing warm season crops that will be transplanted in the fall. Knowing when your first average frost date is can help you determine how early you should start your warm season crops for the fall. You can find your first average frost date here on this interactive map: https://www.plantmaps.com/interactive-florida-first-frost-date-map.php
For major pest infestations the following can be used:
Organic Pest Control Methods:
1) Spray Insecticidal Soap directly on the the bugs (I do this late in the day and rinse off the next morning so the sun doesn’t burn the plants). Do repeated treatments every few weeks until they are gone. For a homemade soapy water spray, I mix up some castile soap with water and neem oil (I do 1 tsp of Dr. Bronner Soap + 1 tsp Neem Oil to a quart of water in a spray bottle, per the instructions on the neem oil bottle, but there are many recipes online for homemade insecticidal soap that would probably work just as well).
Alternately, you could buy a pre-mixed Insecticidal Soap.
These are the brands I have used, but I’m sure there are plenty of other good ones:

Dr. Bronner’s Soap: https://amzn.to/3JOD3uq
Neem Oil: https://amzn.to/36VG1P1
2) For Caterpillars/Worms I use the organic products Spinosad and/or “Bt” (Bacillus Thuringiensis). I only use them for severe infestations that can’t be controlled by routine hand picking. I spray it in the evening when bees are not active and only spray it on the affected plants. These are the ones I have used, but there are other brands that would also work (Note that these are concentrates, meant to be mixed with water following the instructions on the label):

Bt: https://amzn.to/3uI9uV4
Here are links for many of the products I use in my vegetable garden. Note that a lot of these items, like the fertilizers and the trays/saucers, have gotten much more expensive lately (like everything else). I shop around to find the best prices on the items and if I can’t find something at a reasonable price then I will just do without or find a substitute):

or
Espoma Organic Fertilizer (3-4-4): https://amzn.to/3EbvJ9P
For Berries: Espoma Berry-tone Organic Fertilizer (4-3-4): https://amzn.to/3jlD8dA
In addition to the above fertilizers I occasionally use these seaweed and fish fertilizers to give my plants a boost of nutrients. I also use some of the seaweed fertilizer (half-strength) on my seedlings right after I transplant them (Note: I don’t use fertilizers with fish in them for seedlings):
Maxicrop Seaweed Fertilizer (Powder): https://amzn.to/3uWO9ak
Maxicrop Seaweed Fertilizer (Liquid): https://amzn.to/37uA0JJ
Neptune’s Harvest Tomato & Veg Fertilizer 2-4-2 (Note: this formula is best for first few weeks of plant growth, as it encourages lots of green leafy growth. For fruiting/flowering plants, I switch to the Rose & Flowering formula after the first few weeks. Also, this contains fish and the smell attracts animals, which will dig up the plants trying to find the source of the fish smell, so I use it early in day and water it in just before dark to minimize the smell). https://amzn.to/3r8OJ40 Neptune’s Harvest Rose & Flowering Formula 2-6-4 (Note: this formula is best for later stages of plant growth to encourage more flowers and fruit to grow. This formula also contains fish so everything I said above about attracting animals applies to this formula too). https://amzn.to/3KqBino

Thanks for sharing 🙏 😎 🏖 🏝
Great information 🤗
Thank you! I have been waiting for this month. It’s been a relief in a way to NOT plant much this month lol. My tomatoes are pretty much gone for this season. I’m in the central Florida area between Orlando and Daytona and appreciate your channel soooo much to help guide me. I’m looking forward to August and trying for tomatoes again. I use 5 gallon buckets with a water bottoming system. Seems to have kept the bugs down a bit. There were, towards the end of the life of my maters, a bug that has the body shaped like a tiny shield. They crawled around the tomato and left what looked like a “bruise”on the fruit. I think they where sucking on it. Yuck. I hate pests.
Thanks
Just started following you. Thanks for the tips from SW Florida!
I wonder if growing your pumpkins under a row cover would help with the bug pressures until the plants are a good size? When I lived in zone6 virginia, I grew cabbages that way because we had a terrible time with cabbage worms. They would chew them up before the plants but on any size 😡
A few more suggestions for veggies that do well through our hot summers are peanuts, and sweet potatoes. They don't seem to require much care either, I just water now and then if we haven't had rain in awhile. I'm in South Florida, zone 10b.
Thanks so much! Just found you😊 (From Winter Park, FL)
This video was very informative and helpful! I’ve recently learned the reason why I haven’t had much success with a lot of my greens is because I’ve been planting the wrong VARIETY for central Florida 🙃 So I can’t wait to start planting the list you have here. Thank you!
Hello and thank you for the information. Do you have any recommendations as to where to buy these items pants or seeds?
Hey could you send me some katuk seeds?
im nw fl
Great info., that I've been looking for for a while, thank you so much for sharing 🙂 (Ever had any experience with millipedes and/or leaf miners?) Zone 9b, West Central Florida
I'm in 10a, SW Florida. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
I'm getting my first ever cherry tomatoes. 6 of them growing 😁. I had my first salad of romaine, endive and butter crunch lettuces. That was neat. I can barely wait to have tomatoes and bunching onions to add to it. I tried growing radishes too early and got the prettiest radish greens but not one radish, lol. The radish greens were delicious. I have dill, thyme, rosemary coming up in the seed trays. I have basil and parsley growing. I killed my cucumbers and bush beans, so I'm itching to give it another go soon. I propagated 12 tomato suckers into new tomato plants. I so don't need the 12 extra tomato plants this experiment gave me, lol. I don't have enough friends to gift the plants to people.
You're excellent. You get into detail with months, crops, Fl. zones.
I've been so confused .. I live in Miami Beach area, west side of my home is my front lawn where I have space, but hottest & longest high sun exposure (8+ hrs). In I started tomatoes, peppers, sweet potato, papaya in April but I think summer now too hot for all but Sweet Potato & Papaya. Though my sweet potato not happening much, papaya is barely surviving… tall, lanky with few small deformed leaves on top.
Your indepth instructions & hints, links REALLY Helped me understand when to sow, where and what. Thank You… found your channel just today. Lost time…better late than never.
Hugs from SE Florida. 🌴❣️🌴
Eggplant starts in July didn't work for me.
