Great idea for a 5 year Diary Thanks π Tim
Omg Iβve literally just started my new books for notes lol uncanny timing lol
Hi Steve, great idea on a 5 year diary, thanks Jane, always great videos Steve, thanks for sharing and take care π
Good tip on the five year dairy, I have been using a note book π
5 year diary sounds good even to me who never keeps diaries lol ππ±βοΈ
Steve, have you checked out pricing on aquarium supplies? They might save $ on some of the hydroponic supplies since they're similar products.
πππ
I simply take pictures using my phone of seed sowing, planting out, plant progress, crop progress, harvesting, crop clearance, etc., etc., including scribbled notes, diagrams, etc.
Much easier than a paper trail.
Great tip from Jane I totally agree just looking for a 5 year diary. thanks for sharing
π
Hi Steve, I have been running various hydroponic systems for several years. I have experimented with different feeds and with & without amending the ph. I grow greens & strawberries and could not see a huge difference between those with ph adjusted & those without. The cost of the ph amendment in my experience is not worth the extra cost. Plus, there are powder feeds that are far cheaper & better than the over priced liquid feeds.
Happy to share my experiences with you if you ever want to chat.
Really like the idea of the 5 year dairy, make life alot easier and I can keep a 5 year picture with ease.
Hope you try a tomato test in the Kratky as well, that would be interesting to see the results…
I realise you were given the hydroponic stuff but with all those wonderful growing spaces you have created why start growing chemically?
We gardeners are so blessed to have food grown in healthy soil with all the natural nutrients available for our benefit. Sure, itβs a new interest and may even help with your particular nemesis, but please remember your roots. Lol.
Thanks for the very informative and educational videos, I've learned a lot! btw, you're good at the "get the basket in the hole" game! 7:01 πππ
Lee Valley in Canada sells a lovely 10 yr gardening journal. A big big to haul around but I record daily stuff, temps, etc. mit has all other kinds of info too.
Right ….. a five year diary it is for me then π
Great tips thanks for that.
Just started recording this year. The 5 year planner sounds marvelous Jane.
Very interesting. I love watching Jane she is always smilingx
Yes I do a log every year, one on what, where and when I grow everything that I transfer to a spread sheet with first and last harvests etc and another document on weather and anything important like diseases and pests as well for each month. Although I prefer to use pen and paper, I put it in a spreadsheet and word document to make it easier to view at any time, save space and I then download to my smartphone so I can look at it anytime anywhere. I also have a spreadsheet with everything I've grown with the: sowing times, planting dates, spacing, height etc too. All the best, John, Hampshire, UK
What you are talking about regarding ph is similar to how it is done in the aquarium world. There you also measure the ph and raise or lower it depending on which fish and which water environment you have in that particular aquarium. That analogy made it a little easier for me to understand how ph works in the garden/soil. Thanks for a super good, fun and inspiring channel.
There is a Homestead American site on here that has been growing like this for a few years now, they have grown cues, melon, tomatoes as well as other things. Most of them have done very well. Hope you have good luck with this growing system.
Steve what should I grow after potatoes? Cheers
Oh 5 year planner is a brilliant shout!
Another fantastic video Steve.
It's the perfect time of year to reset and plan for next year so all these tips will be brilliant additions.
I wonder if an old bath might be suitable for a hydroponics system as you could pipe it up through the taps maybe?
Very good idea the 5 year diary π as I am always losing old notes /diaries ππ
Fab idea about the 5 year Diary. Just subscribed to Janes channel. π
A five year diary is a charming idea but there's about zero chance that my diary will survive that long, each year's diary is quickly folded, dropped, muddied, accidentally dropped. How nice it would be nice to be so ladylike like Jane!
Hope your nemesis will be mastered, Steve.
I love the diary idea because my notes are all over the place. Grow some chilli or tomatoes in the big barrels.
Hi Steve, why not try one of the Kratky systems using your homemade fertilisers and compare the results?. I have dabbled with Kratky and got fruit from tomatoes and chillies. I didn't buy any testing equipment or fertilisers and tried to recycle things around me. Khang Starr has some great videos on hydroponic growing. You can get some fantastic results growing chillies in small recycled water bottles. I much prefer growing in the ground though.
