be sure to put a smoke alarm in that room if it isn't already there.
those splitters are a bit um built to questionable standards usually
and I think the warmth can't get away from under the reflector bucket, so maybe you could put a few holes in the top…

I've never done it myself, but apparently you can remove the plastic part of the bulb to expose the diodes. Makes them much brighter.
Sorry to hear about the pickup truck, but at least you get some bees!
Winter?!?! Winter isn't until Thursday!
I am currently looking at grow setups. Growing starts in 59 days, but, who's counting?
great way to turn a negative into a positive !! no truck or light but touch wood bees next season
I hope you will be able to afford more than one hive, it really helps to have 2 or 3 going as you can use the strong hives to help support the weaker ones if need be until they get going. Are you buying nucs or just bees. And if nucs how many frames do you get per nuc?
You rule. Your set up looks great and I admire your thrift. I have had my problems with starting plants — damping off, frying plants, drowning plants, transplant shock — but i think my problems stem from my "thriftiness" or laziness. I use a light fixture from back in the day and a heat mat. I don't give my plants enough light. Don't think you will have that problem. Keep trying with the bees. It's so cool to keep bees.
This is ingenious! I'm about to place a $100+ order with Baker Creek, after this weekend's Operation Garden Build is (hopefully) completed. I will have 208 sq/ft of planting space, up from about 20 burlap sacks that I planted in exclusively last yet, just to see if I liked it and could grow vegetables successfully. My thinking is, if I can manage a big garden, and keep 3 chickens alive, I can confidently progress to the next step of suburban 'steading. I have several seeds in the shopping cart that will require starting indoors, and I have exactly zero setup for that, so the second I place the order, I will be scrambling. Thank you for sharing such a fantastic idea for DIY grow lights. On my limited budget, the metal rack, heating pad things, little planting cell things, starter mix, and multiple lights just seemed out of reach. But this brings it quite a bit closer to my reach. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'll be sifting through your videos to see if you've shown the rest of your setup, so I can mimic more ideas. 💜
