Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. * You might want to use the plastic covered line or the cotton line but the cotton eventually rots. The plastic poly line will stretch and stretch and stretch. Your system is awesome Miah. A ~ Line Tightener ~ is a must. You can always adjust the tension easily when the line gets lose. And it does. Can't wait when Jess sees this.

  2. Oh my gosh. The outdoor clothesline is the best part of our house. It came with the house and I use it every week. The laundry just smells so much better!

  3. What a awesome tradition! Looks great! She’s gonna love it! Love your how to build videos! ♥️👍🏼♥️👍🏼♥️👍🏼♥️

  4. MIAH PLEASE NOTE SUGGESTIONS BELOW ABOUT USING VINYL COATED CLOTHESLINE WIRE!! TRY IT BEFORE USING ROPE ON THE OTHER ONE. ALSO TIGHTENERS! You are so wonderful! Jess is going to love this. I hope you will film her reaction.

  5. Not to be a party pooper, because you are the sweetest husband, but the rope won't likely work, because it has too much give, and it will loosen in the sun and rain. And it will hang lower and lower as she hangs clothes on it. Get clothesline wire instead. It's like wire wrapped in plastic. Specially made for hanging clothes. If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, trust me, it's from firsthand experience, haha 🙂

  6. I've started hagning my clothes out again after several years. I love it! I get more laundry done much faster and it smells great! Three loads can dry winkle free while I am at work. Of course, winter brings a limitation for us as we are in the mountains of northern PA, and eventually the short days and the snow load will make it impractical. Great saving for my electric bill, of course!

  7. That is beautiful Ben. True Love is so precious. When a man shows his love for his wife it is so Holy to me. Remember you are married in Holy Matrimony and you show it Ben. Now that being said, the cord you've chosen to run the clothes line on is going to sag really bad. I had the same problem, so I ended up using paracord with niteize cam jams and pulleys. It works prefect. That way you can tighten it without using the double clamps you have on it! Just a suggestion. 😊😊❤👍

  8. Oh Marine, all the crusty vets that watch you know that once a devil dog finds a girl that is his target 😀 Its pretty adorable how sweet y'all are after being together for a while. Defiantly couple goals.

  9. You are a fine man doing things for Jess that would surprise her when she gets back. The love and respect between you both is so important❤.

  10. lose the dishwashing liquid… do dishes with diluted suave shampoo… the ocean blue clarifying is the best… her hands will heal

  11. This is so sweet, you are always looking beyond the current issue and ever forward into the future. Jessica has found an amazing man. You are one blessed couple!!

  12. Love this- Jess will love her clothesline as I love mine- clothes smell sooo good

  13. Sweet Miah, Your Sweet Jess is going to love this beautiful surprise. It is very apparent you took time planning, and making the solar dryer. Nice job!!!

  14. When I first saw solar dryer, I thought I've never seen a solar dryer lol totally forgot about clothes lines, Bed sheets just off the line right about dusk is the absolute best smell and the best night's sleep ever. God bless you Miah, You are so considerate of each other the relationship we are all praying for one day.

  15. Lovely! She's gonna need some notched poles. The clothesline will always sag. The notched pole is to hike the clothesline up once fully loaded.

  16. I love the story about the solar clothes dryer. I'm here in Australia and hanging out clothes is normal for us. Even though we have dryers too. Anyway, my Nieghbour has the original clothes line similar to this. It would be 50 years old at least. Heavy gauge wire is used on these. Jess will be so happy about her new solar clothes line. 🙂

  17. Jess is a lucky lady to have such a thoughtful husband. I have a question is 30ft too long of a distance to keep the ropes taunt enough?? It just seems like the more weight on it the more it will pull it down and possibly need a middle post for support? I just know Jess is going to LOVE it! Great job!!!

  18. I made me a solar clothes dryer three years ago when my dryer broke down. It wasn't so fancy, just a line tied between the trees in my yard. It has done very well.

  19. I subscribed to your channel for garden help – I have stayed a loyal fan because of your sweetness and respect for one another and the strong team that you are.
My husband also built a nice clothesline earlier this year. I was amazed that it looks fantastic and works beautifully. I thank him on a regular basis – like every time I use it!
So guys, build your sweetie a clothesline. ❤

  20. Miah, I agree with all these wonderful comments. This brought memories of when my late husband put up this type of close line for me. I didn't know how to work it, lol. My mom had one pole in the middle with the lines running left and right. You and Jess are so blessed to have each other, doing, caring and sharing . Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  21. 😂had to take a break to break up a fight about superpowers. Lol
Omgosh! I totally remember those days. Believe it or not, you will miss those kind of days.

  22. Excellent job, great man of God serving his wife with love and joy.
My husband is my joy from the Lord🙌
