Hi Tracy I can’t actually find the first video and it doesn’t seem to be directly linked in the description box?
I don’t see the first video either. But if you repost, I will surely what it! 😃
Excellent information in this video. I want to do a better job with my garden journal this year too. You gave me some really good ideas, thank you! 🙌
I would love to start a garden journal, well a home making journal in general. I have my seeds for the year, but since I live in Michigan, growing won't start until the first week of June. That seed catalog is BIG, these days I can't get a catalog delivered, everything is online, which is discouraging for someone that wants the book in hand. Thank you Tracy for an informative video.🫑🥒🥬🥦🍅🥕
I wish I was half as organized as you are. I love the journals that you made. I could spend days looking at your journals. I know you can't wait to just dig it.
Looked for part 1 and can’t find it. What is the title?
Great idea, I sure wish youtube was available when I was younger…but I can start small in my older years
I enjoyed this video very much and You have a beautiful home and garden. What do you do about ants. I see you put pine straw in your flower bed. If I do that here at my house it would create a roach and ant bed. I use the cedar chips that are used in pet beds in my flower bed. I love the smell and beauty it provides but the slugs, ants and roaches stay away. I also have fire ant beds that are a continuous struggle in my yard and I have to use poison which I hate because I have a well. Last year these fire ants popped up in my garden and I can’t put poison in there. I’m thinking maybe trying pouring Epson salt on them maybe that will run them off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I just went and watched part one and saw all the fun stuff you got! I like your year long plan and box method. I think I am going to try and adapt that to my garden as well. That will also make me feel like I’m still getting to work on my garden while I’m waiting to dig in the dirt!
That big Baker Creek catalog is a doozy isn’t it?!! I ooo’d and ahhh’d at stuff on pretty much every page!!
As for making your journal pretty, I have an idea- you could decoupage it with some of those empty seed packets and use some pretty printed papers here and there for some of the pages inside. So basically combine your scrap booking style with the record keeping pages tucked in between. I know whatever you do, it will indeed be beautiful and creative!!
Thank you for teaching us how you manage & plan your magnificent gardens. I do have 1 question. You rotate crops every year but how do you decide which bed to move crops to? What is your criteria & why?
Jason sent me. Lol He is so excited about you planning their protege gardens by their house. Bless his heart, he can pronounce it now! Lol Looking forward to your next video. I'm in SE Oklahoma, zone 7.
Thanks for sharing! I am working in finding a garden planning system that works for me. You definitely gave me some ideas. How do you handle things you succession plan? Do you just write them on each card/move seeds?
I love this! I think I’m going to use your box idea. I have all my seeds organized by type in an old apothecary chest but I usually just write it down in a notebook. I love the little box filing system. Definitely would help keep me on track! ♥️
Grid paper sections for design and blank space for sketch. Blank stickers . pockets. ribbon markers. Not too much clutter.
I just ordered more Poppy seeds since none of mine popped up last year. Praying they grow, I do more whole front yard in seeds and bulbs … No Luck with seeds last year hoping the new seeds will pop up this yea, they all are from Baker I live in St Louis so I thought they would grow with no problem … No Luck so reordered this past year and now this year
Hello I live in a senior apartment and can’t go anything I just love watching you
When you say sow indoors do you means in your house or in the greenhouse?
Love your box of seeds for the year!
I feel like everything you're showing of your ideas are exactly what I want in a journal. I need companions or what not to plant together. Also I like the idea of having an area for beds and what to plant in spring, summer and winter.
Oh! Seed Catalog Dreamin'!! That's my favorite way to spend a winter day/eve! I really love how you have everything organized & your journals. I HAVE to have a written plan also… even tho I tend to change my mind and stick this plant here & that plant there as I go. LOL
I am so in awe of your organized planning! I can't wait to start watching your other videos. As for a journal, if removing and adding pages is important to you, have you ever considered a disc ring binder? The pages simply pull out or get pressed back in easily. It's not very sophisticated, but you can make different covers, sizes and thicknesses, and the discs come in lots of colors. Plus, it lays completely flat, or folds back all the way to show only one page. Thanks for all the great ideas!
I use a 5 inch binder with 3 ring 4×6 photo sheets to hold all my seeds. I also store a 3 ring calendar at the front for seed sowing, indoor and outdoor. I have decorated the whole outside of the binder with pics from seasons past… however, you can decorate the outside with decoupage, beads, jewels or even fabric. Its very versatile. Haha
I also have a full yard hand garden plan and besides the staples in the garden, on the outer side of my plan, i list the new plants im adding and use a colored dot next to the plant list.. and the same colored dot as to where im going to put the new plants.. (like in what bed) My family laughs at me, but seeding and planning is serious business. 😂
Great tutorial, thank you so much for sharing …. I love your plan for the perfect Garden Journal, I hope you share that also… the three ring binder is good in the way you can easily add pages to the Journal. Thank you so very much, love your teaching and encouragement.
I think the perfect journal depends on your personal style of organization. I’m mostly a macro organizer. So I can’t do those containers you see on many YouTube videos that is a big clear plastic container with smaller containers inside it. I like to open my seed box, grab and go. Looks like you are fairly similar with that. I really like how you put a lot of thought into your plan up front, but then it’s reusable each year, so you’re not always doing it. I have a feeling if you come up with a good journal, I’ll probably like it too. With your idea of it being a binder, I feel like offering it as an electronic download might be best if you’re wanting to make one and offer it for sale.
Found your channel by Hoss tools mentioning you. So enjoyed your beautiful garden journals. Thank you for sharing your planting methods, it was very helpful!
Can you please make a video about which seeds can be started directly in the ground in late February. I live 3 hours south of Birmingham in zone 8b
Hey sweet friend! A lot of info for sure so many amazing ideas! And you know I love “the pretty garden journal idea”!!! I was thinking you could find a hard cover book big enough to hold the size pages you want to work with .. deconstruct it make it a ring bound journal for versatility .. decorate the cover any way you want .. come up with a general design plan of the journal pages .. space for design and layout maybe grid .. place for sketching and notes .. maybe a laminate dashboard for sticky notes .. corner pockets or just pockets for whatever .. have a place for journaling and photos .. incorporate the design and planning with your love of scrapbooking .. I have so many ideas ..maybe I’ll pull some things together and bring them with me to petals , if we can’t get together sooner love you ❤️
I love your "to plant box idea! I was just trying to figure out how I was going to set that up beyond a gallon zip lock bag filled with what I want to plant. I will be heading out to get a tote for that today.
Garden Journal ideas; draw nicely your garden bed design and laminate it, personally, I am laminating a sheet for each bed (I name my beds). Then I can use dry erase pens on them each year and I can take them in the garden and not worry about ruining them! Tip, you can purchase a good laminator on Amazon for about $40.
This almost exactly how I do my seed organizing box for the season by target date/month! Yay!
Talk to Jason at Cog Hill Farms website designers to see if they can create you a personal Garden Journal (or someone they may know) that copies and adds the additional pages you need. Beautiful page designs can be created (for each page even). I know it can be done. You just need to find the right person to create this for you. Oh yes, the actual size designs of your beds can be set up like what you have. Sharon Purcell
