Autumn is well and truly here and there are plenty of October garden/ allotment jobs that can be done during the month. In this video we look at vegetable garden jobs for October!
Welcome to the No Dig Norfolk Gardener and our no dig/no till garden where we grow vegetables. We garden in zone 9a. Although we grow our veg from our back garden it is very much set up like allotment gardening UK – allotment life. Our passion is vegetable gardening, bigger harvests and no dig gardening. You will see how growing your own food is so easy.
We had a good harvest during the summer and autumn is looking like it will be a glut of harvests too! We take a look at jobs to do in the glasshouse and the polyhouse during this month as well as on the veg plots
If you need a little help to keep track of the jobs you could be doing in the Vegetable GardenAllotment, here’s a few handy tips to help you out in September.
If you have asked yourself the question what can I sow in October, what should I be doing on the veg plot in October or what are my allotment jobs for October, well there are still seeds to sow, seedlings to be pricked out, plants to transplant and many harvests to be had.
In this video, I share what I am doing for productive gardening, harvesting, planting, and go through some of my October garden jobs.

Another great video Barry & Mrs. W!
I wondered if you could tell me how I know when it is time to harvest my Butternut Squash?
Great video again, thank you. We’re still harvesting French beans, Leaf beet, Beetroot, Autumn Raspberries plus one last yellow courgette. Then I’m done until my new Greenhouse arrives in November. Like you I am planning Garlic and Broad Beans to sow. No room for shallots really.
(BTW. The slight buzz on your video is probably from a mobile phone near where you are recording. You probably knew that.)
Thanks for the content NDNG. Still enjoying your videos and your lovely garden
Looking good! Our Toms are finished, peppers too, chillis are doing well. Just setting up my new blank allotment so chucked a few things in just to get something in the ground, they have 2 chances this year before I start properly planning next year. Chucked in cauliflower and kohlrabi seedlings . Chard, beetroot, carrots seeds. Shallots went in too, waiting for garlic to turn up. Made up 7 5m beds so far.
👍🏾
How do you use the aubergines in the kitchen just to get new ideas
We had abundance of toms made lots of sauces and soup for freezer. We have harvested ours pears some in coldstore some in freezer and all the apples we have just pruned the fruit trees. We have started to clear beds and put on compost and then we will sow green mustard for green manure and also plant field beans also for green manure you can eat the tops of those too wen they mature in the early new year/ spring time. I am planting my broad beans in modules for planting out like you my garlic is in and I just need to get in a few shallots and my onion sets. I grew Bedfordshire champion onions in the early spring I sowed seed for first time and I had an amazing harvest late July which meant two harvests of onions I think I will do the same again. If they grow good again I might just sow seed next year instead of sets and save my own seed. Our sprouts and purple sprouting brocolli were very stunted during the heat so only just beginning to see signs of sprouts forming so they will be late might not get any for Christmas 🙄leeks bit slow they always follow our new potatoes but again I think it is water related they are multisown our carrots are also patchy because of germination I tried to keep them watered but was very difficult. That’s it from me 🖐
