This is an easy DIY french drain & landscaping project for any homeowner looking for multiple solutions. This project acts as a great yard drainage solution as well as a low maintenance river rock landscaping option.
This might not be an expensive project but it will produce professional grade results that work. I have installed a few french drains like this in the past and they have worked amazing. This time I combined the drain with the river rock landscaping. Using a lot of stone in combination with a non woven geotextile drainage fabric will keep this drain flowing and landscaping looking good for many years to come. Maybe forever.

Thanks for watching! If you are not a fan of digging, check this out. Same concept and probably just as effective but much faster for larger projects! https://youtu.be/DibOVx3ziwM
Nice plans has many great ideas for building a cottage shedplans.work retirement home or medium size home from very modest to high end.
Nice job!
When you did the landscaping around the house with the rocks did you level it higher up and kinda tilt it downwards away from house or is just flat and even?
GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY
Thank you so much for the video. Quite impressive. I was wondering if it is possible to put top soil and turf on top of the geofabric instead of the big gravel you put on in this project. Thanks again.
Can you plant rose bushes in area without it effecting drain system?
Very impressive video. I am going to follow your lead and put a drain in our back yard which has many water flowing/non-flowing issues. Thank you!
Excellent video! What size rocks are those? Love it. Thinking about doing this for my backyard.
Great video!
#57 washer river gravel
Hey just curious because I am doing something similiar, is your downspout drain connected to this drain? I was just watching trying to figure out where it was going lol
Much better to use pvc pipe
That’s a lotta digging! Cool project, though.
Questions from zero experience and curiosity: why not do the same but without the plastic or pvc pipe? Won’t it still work as a drainage?
0:50 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
merika homes lmao
How do your edge look from transition from rocks to grass now since you didn’t put edging your rocks with trimming? I know it’s been a couple years now
Wow that’s a lot of work good job bro
Great job. Thank you.👍
This is absolutely great video . Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
เป็นการกระทำที่ดีมาก. ขอบคุณที่แบ่งปัน. 👍🤩
Whoever it was in the background sitting down while you worked so hard, i bet they are not happy about this video
I have 120 feet of 2"PVC sch. 40 smooth wall pipe drain ing from my hot tub vault and how much grade ( fall ) do I need to get the pipe to drain fast & efficient ?
What can you say, 2 million views, just an outstanding video
Great video
Love this idea ..l wish I had seen this 10 years ago when I was a little younger
Connecticut here. Can I ask where you are located? Wondering how difficult my dirt will be to dig out for this project. Thanks!
do you have to put plastic under
Love this.. thanks for sharing this easy water drainage set up
Will french drains work in nortern Maine when we have 4 feet of frost?
You need six inches of air under your siding for weep and so any water that penetrates the siding can dry from the airflow. If I were inspecting your house I’d immediately know there is a grade issue.
Last grade I fixed required removal of 14” of material 20 to 30 feet from the structure. Fixing grade is never cheap or easy. While you may have fixed the drainage issue, you now created another issue.
I thought the purpose of a French drain was to take the water away from the house, and direct it to a better spot away from the house. You have it hooked up where the water is going to go in the corrugated and go into the ground. I think you’re gonna find a lot of water going into your basement.…
Amazing video
Looks beautiful. Awesome Job!
Good point about roots clinging on to the fabric — I've seen that but never seen it as a disadvantage to fabric; in some places the, best to leave it out and make sure the stones are depp, deep.
I'm not only impressed with your project, but you crafted a very nice explanatory video as well. Great job using the time lapse to show the whole thing going together. Nicely done!
Great Video
Excellent video, I have a drainage problem in the corner of my backyard I will try this project on it! Silly question – right at about the 9:12 mark in your video you start panning the finished drain before covering everything with your cobblestone…. what if I want to grow grass back on top of the drain, can I simply dump soil on top of the fabric and then seed and fertilize the area? Also new to landscaping a full yard so not sure how much depth grass needs to root itself effectively. We have Bermuda grass here in northern GA. Thank you!
This is exactly what I need! Unfortunately, digging is much harder in this area. After watching this, I know the results will be worth the hard work.
This looks great! Im not sure if i could do something like this. I wish i could
This dude is genius and patient! I have to do the same thing and I'm soooo not looking forward to it…
Where's is the place where you dumped the dirt? One of my most stressful part of my projects is not the hard work, but where to plac the stuff I dig out. 😂.
Great video!! 👏🏽 thank you for making sharing.
I saw this video a year ago when I bought the house. Now it's the time to come back and do the job. But now I think I could get away without the pipe. We don't get a lot of rain here and I just want to keep the snow melt away from the house. Do you think it may work just with the grading and rocks?
I don’t know how I ended up here and might never do it but it looks hella good! Good job man!
Nice work. Everything you did and said made sense. I also like that you used rocks instead of mulch for the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for the video!
Awesome video and great instruction. I love the landscaping and the drain is exactly what I have been looking for to fix my drainage problem. Thank you!
Why does it look worse than when you started
Awesome work man. 😀😀 I love doing stuff by myself or at lease all I can. Seeing other people doing solo stuff is so nice. 😊😊😊
Good work
